i'm happy!

My new spot is just minutes from my house, it's the same spot I found the hammerstone. I ran down there today, and within a few minutes, found this. No insitu-forgot my camera. It's ass-end was sticking out from under a rock. I didn't have anything big enough to put it in to protect it, it's thin!, so I ran home, got my camera, and took a picture of the terrain in which I found it. didn't find anything else, couldn't settle down enough to focus :laughing9: Still can't believe it's whole, thanks for looking!

oh yeah, it's got that long flute down the middle, that's different. I don't think it's paleo, just a little differnet.the base is the thickest part.

Re: i'm happy!

Hi treefrog! Thanks, you were actually on my mind when I headed out. I intended to sift through a sandbar that is in the middle of the creek, and I had been thinking about your sifter bucket. All I had was some plastic mesh, it didn't work too well. :dontknow: It must be pretty cool to dig a rock-shelter!

thanks Peachy! Like I said, I'm happy!

Re: i'm happy!

well the bucket is pretty handy, I have bigger sifters made from wood but didn't feel like punishing myself with them. I cut the bottom out with my Dremel Tool and left about a 3/4 inch lip on it. then just cut some 1/2 inch hardware cloth a little big for it. keep and extra piece the same size, if you load it too heavy it'll make it bend down and then it'll fall out a lot. I need to take a wire clothes hanger and run it across the middle and out the sides in small holes and bend it down to hold more weight. Shelters are fun but I'm actually digging about 50 feet below the front of the shelter.

I also go to Good Will a lot and find little 1/4 and 1/2 inch wire baskets, (like for jewelry storage) and use them a lot too.
good luck in your hunts and have loads of fun!!!

Looks like a large Hanna blade. Nice point.

Re: i'm happy!

I am happy for you. What an exciting day and find. Thanks for sharing with us. AWSOME!! :icon_sunny:

Re: i'm happy!

Yeah, a great find indeed! I would be grinning ear to ear after finding that... :icon_sunny:

Re: i'm happy!

geeze that is kick ass, a very big congrats to you on that one!!!! how many inches long is it? looks huge!!!!

Re: i'm happy!

Thanks everyone, I even woke up happy ;D It's 3 1/2 inches long, and it does look like a hanna, it also looks like a darl, uvalde and a johnson or yarbrough :dontknow: If darls get this big, I think that's an Okla. point. How do you tell the difference between a concave base and a bifurcated base? Just guessing, I think the material is boone chert.

Thanks cathrine1, but I don't have good eyes, I walked by this one maybe 8 times in the last two weeks.
glad I finally focused on it.

Your sifter info is appreciated treefrog. I don't know if sifting a sandbar/trap in the middle of the creek is worth the time or not. I see alot of 20-50's trash caught on it, so i thought smaller things may be down in the sand.

Y'all have a good 'un :hello:

Re: i'm happy!

OMG! :o How totally freakin awesome is that?!?!
And right by your house, too! :headbang:
Maybe there was a camp next to that creek? with you finding that hammerstone there too, I wouldn't doubt that the indians stayed there awhile.
Good things happen to Good people!
I'm happy for ya, NG!

Re: i'm happy!

Thanks sandcreek, that's sweet of you, but there are lots of people who would beg to differ on my "goodness" And "OMG" is this point's official name.

Maybe a midden, that's still one of the things I've yet to see, so I don't know exactly what to look for.

Thanks adena_man and pickaway!

still happy......ng
