im collecting copper pennies, are 1968-1974 S pennies worth anything?

Not sure, but those are the only copper cents I hoard.

Small date 1970S cents have some additional value. There are doubled dies for the years 69 thru 72 to look for also.

Congress on December 14, 2006 made it illegal to melt any nickels or pennies. So why hoard pennies?

(I still see the value of hoarding nickels.)

Some day they will no longer be used and then it's in the Pot it goes! LOL!

I suppose it's possible. But it would require Congress to retract a law they already enacted. Very very few laws have had that happen in the past.

Copper cents have more 1c worth of copper. But it is illegal to melt them. See:

Nickels are actually a better choice for hoarders, but it is illegal to melt those as well. Nickels contain 60% (3 grams) copper and 40% (2 grams) nickel each.

According to the website referenced above, $1 face of nickels yields only $1.20 in melt value.
Conversely, $1 face of copper cents yields $2.68!

I'll keep hoarding copper cents!

Best,
Scott
