Of course there is something I can do, contact his local sheriffs office and tell them I was defrauded.

That only means you will have to go to small claims court. If you beat him up that means you have to go to criminal court.

The lesson you learned is don't get into this kind of thing site unseen.

I had something happen like that with some electronic equipment.

It's pretty hard to get action if it's a bigger department, they may tell you it's a "civil issue" (hope not)

However, if you bought this on ThiefBay, you can take more steps than you can most other places. Especially if you used paypal.
Good luck man.

My dad got ripped off one time on a computer monitor from ebay. He contacted the Sheriff's office in Gresham, Oregon and they went right to the guys house and questioned him. My dad had his money back later that day.

He got lucky. In most cases it's your word against his.

It was nice. Treasure Hunter banned me for "questioning his authority."

Weak.

I've been on numerous vacations on other forums.

so... does it just sit there and blare when the coil is disconnected?

You probably tried this but did you try a different brand of batteries?

When I disconnect the coil while the machine is on it just goes quiet.

I left him a message, he doesn't get off of work til 4 so he should be getting home soon.

It will be interesting to hear what he says.

Sounds like a loose wire or loop problem in the coil. I had a super 12 for my DFX that overloaded and chattered. I got it for free, so on a whim I banged it up against a wall a few times.

Worked like a champ ever since.

Please note, against wall, not the person you acquired it from!. Some times coil problem more evident when detector "wiggled",you seem past that coinstriking, good luck. Hoping logic prevails.

I don't understand this "Please note, against wall, not the person you acquired it from!."

Well he contacted me back saying it worked when he shipped it but said we could trade back. So it looks like I'm out $40 bucks for this bullshit deal.

Sorry, referring to diggit banging detector against wall a few times, knowing temptation to bang it against the person you got it from.
