I'll need help identifying this strange find

I went looking at houses with my older brother for a few hours this morning, he needs to move soon. I found this cool rock, well, I think it's a rock at one of the places in a rock pile.

It's about twice the size of a mans fist, green in color like a coke bottle and has quartz going through it. It looks to me like it's glass but doesn't feel quite the same for some reason. I thought for a minute the quartz was salt but I don't think it is.

What ever this is it's natural, nobody made it. I've never seen anything like this so any help would be great. Maybe I should get Kirsten Gumm to look at it? (I hope I spelt her name right)

Thank you!

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Looks like a large piece of melted glass to me, then it was broke. The other stuff in it may have been stuff in the same fire.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Cool looking whatever it is..... Nice find, I hope it is a good one!!!!

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Can't say but it does look natural. Maybe it's Kryptonite ?

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

it garden glass sparky, I have one or two in my yard.. believe it or not..some garden places now sell em in chunks like that.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

I've got one too..but doesnt have the white stuff inside. Just a hunk of glass I think. Looks cool though

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Its a piece of crystal skull that attracts nonmagnetic items like Gold and Silver. :o :icon_scratch:

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

They say that when the ufo spaceship lands it makes the ground so hot that it melts sand into glass. I'm only half kidding since I actually watched someone say that on a documentary about alien sightings.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

It's been a long day and I'm quite sunburned, but I believe they may be space alien eggs imbedded in some type of impervious material. Seems like I remember overhearing a conversation about this while I was abducted. If I remember correctly, the material will melt and the eggs will hatch once the price of a certain petroleum product in a certain earth country reaches $4.75 (earth gallons). My mind was kinda fuzzy at the time - and no, I was not being probed! Time for my last beverage in honor of an earthly parental unit. Night All....

Garden glass? Alien eggs? Who knows?

I know I need Kirsten Gumm now cuzz I'm confused as he!!.

That's pretty impressive there civilman1, you identified a fish by it's fin. How did you know?

My office is littered with fishing stuff I've collected over the years. My wife and other Secretary don't really like it but it's mine and I'll decorate how I want to. At least that's what I have to keep telling them when they bring in something girly.

The walleye was caught about 4 years ago on the Bear River by my business partner. He passed away about 3 weeks later from an overdose due to a faulty pain patch, I think it was called a pentinol patch or something like that. The patch was supposed to give a little dose of pain medicine over a weeks time and instead of working like it should have it had a bad membrane that dumped the whole weeks worth out at once.

Anyway, the fish weighs 8-1/2 pounds and is about 29" long, it was in his freezer when his wife moved so I asked her for it and had a real skin mount done.

Here's a few pictures of my office and the fish. I put the glass rock in there, that's why the fin is in the other pictures.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Yeah it looks like glass was melted, like 2 bottles were melted down into that chunk
and the white stuff might be sand?

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Yea, it is just melted glass. Had a TON of that stuff where I grew up as a kid. I think that it is just the left over waste of some glass recycling process.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

It looks like what they call slag glass. Its sold around most rock shops.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

Could be a chunk of AquaMarine. Take it to a rock shop and have them look at it. They can tell. If it is AquaMarine, you have some $$$$ there. Nice wally too! Up here in Michigan they are plentiful. Take care!

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

....bottles? No. Obviously. Igneous glass surely. I'm no scientist but that is an occurrence of or mother earth + nature.

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

NOT a chunk of aquamarine, it has swirled fracture markings, not crystaline

Re: I'll need help identifying this strange find

The more I look at this the More I'm sure it's glass.
I don't know how the quartz, salt or what ever it is got in there but it was definitely and act of nature, nobody did this. Maybe there was an intense heat that melted the sand to glass and the other mineral just happened to be forming in that exact spot or something, who knows.
I'll try to stop it by the local rock and gem shop when I get a chance to see what they think.

Thanks everyone.
