Ike Dollars

Be careful how you ask...I called a bank when I started and said, Hi do you have one dollar coins? Yes sir, we have $280.00, how many would you like? All of them, I'll be right over!! Pulse beating, in my head Im thinking of the possibilities of all the Morgans Im going to get......Got there and there were the presidentials sitting there waiting for me with every damn employee looking me like Im Donald Trump. I walked out sheepishly with nothing in hand, and havent been back since. :dontknow:

That being said, I ask every once in awhile for loose or CR and just got $19.00 worth the other day, skunk. I got tired of asking and having to clarify which ones I meant, and Im like 0 for 10 on asking for an order, oh we dont order those at all.

Yeah, I haven't had any luck finding older dollars, besides sba's. I haven't asked to order any though, just asked if they have any here or there.

i cant find a bank thatll order them, but i get them loose ALL THE TIME! they get annoying after a while. i once found an ASE from asking for big dollar coins, but ive seem hundreds and hundreds (thousands) of them, just to get that one, and thats all. no other silvers. so, i dont feel like its really worth it much, but i ask every time im at the bank for halves and dollars. hope this helps! keep it up and hh! I think banks and their vaults would prefer to get rid of their presidential coins. After all I saw another bag of Native American coins today dumped by someone else when I dumped halves today.

The only bank that I've found so far that is was willing to order is BOA. You may want to try some of the smaller local banks or Credit Unions. As ChainChomp said, if your out hunting for halves just ask for them, most banks are more than happy to dump them.

Ask for "large size dollar coins" and carry an Ike with you to use as a prop. I didn't see any for a long time, then over the course of a couple weeks I found a couple dozen between four of my regular banks. Somebody must be spending their collection of them (here's hoping they dip into their Morgans).

They're not worth more than a dollar unless you find a rare variety (1972 type II) or gem uncirculated examples. Apparently they go for over face on eBay, but you might not be able to make a profit with the fees.

Lately I have been buying up whatever Ike's I can find when I am asking for coins out of the teller trays. I have 8 mint condition specimens I keep in my collection, but the reason I get the Ikes is to spend them. When I use them as tips in a restaurant or for small purchases it usually strikes up a conversation about coins and can lead to better scores.

"Hey! My grandma has some big coins like these."

"Really? If you are ever interested in selling them, here's my card."
