Beautiful. My wild guess would be mens perfume. It has a Masonic look to it.

Whatever it is it's very well-made. Have yet to find anything even closely resembling it...still looking.

Ran all over it with a loop. No hallmarks at all. The inside of the clip has some grime on it and I didn't want to clean it off but didn't see any signs there either.

I guess it doesnt have a perfume smell to it?

No smell, no staining or residue inside. Too small for black powder or alcohol but definitely designed to hold some kind of liquid or powder. What else would snuff containers be called?

Perhaps a ladies vinaigrette scent bottle that connects to a chatelain. That is my best guess.

I think it's for a wee dram of whiskey and a beautiful decoration for a Kilt (Scottish Celtic) It would look great hanging from my belt on my kilt.

People didnt shower as often back then so they used pretty smelling stuff (perfume, vinaigrette) to overcome the body odors. The one on eBay has the same man in the moon or sun face. :icon_thumright:

It may be just a coincidence, but the triangle design is similar to the flag of the Philippines.

1st thought was it was a tie tack. You know clip goes on shirt button and tie goes through the chain. To keep it out of your soup. Probably held perfume or cologne. If it doesn't have a smell, realize that modern perfume is often microencapsulated so that it will keep renewing itself as you break the microcapsules. Perfume from the time of this piece was probably more water or alcohol based and much less intense so it would not last as long as modern perfumes.
