I'm not good at point identification so putting this here for help from ya'll. Posting both sides and on one side the flaking is interesting. It was found by a friend of mine's Daddy in his garden in Western NC Mountains and we would all like to know thoughts on type, time period and material. Thanks for helping us ID it :notworthy:

What county? As you get far enough west in NC and southwest VA you start getting into Tennessee forms and lithics. Looks like some kind of rhyolite?

Size and style screams Late Archaic, one of the hafted knife forms, like Savannah River, but not finished. It looks like it was taken to the point where all that is needed are the finishing touches. It's like a golf ball sitting within easy putting distance from the hole, all of the hard work is done and risk of failure going forward is minimal. Especially on the hard to work materials, it's as far as you need to take it while at the rock source to feel it is safe to pack it out.

Burke county and thank you for commenting much appreciated!

Nice find. A similar type to savannah river points in your area is the Appalachian point: Appalachain Projectile Point

There is a guy in our state probably close to you who constantly hunts timber cuts and has very good success and posts on youtube. He posts under Ridge Raider. Good luck.
