Hey all, not sure if this has ever been proposed, but....

How about giving "points" to people who successfully "SOLVE" a thread? Each thread says who it was "started by" ... it would be cool to see who it was "solved by" too, if that's even possible with this forum software. Or just keep track of the points somehow ... again, not even sure it's possible with this software.

Top performers get bragging rights!

Ownership of TreasureNet was sold to a new owner, late last year, I think. The new owner switched the TN forums to a newer version of software, which gives readers the option to "Like" a post.

In the time since the "Like" option became available, I've seen readers give a "Like" to a post because of an impressive digging-find... or just because the post is funny... and in the What-Is-It forum, because the poster supplied the correct ID of the mystery-object.

So, in 2012, I've been using the "Like" option to give a sort of award-credit to the poster of the correct ID. I think that's the only way to implement your idea.

As noted above, Likes are given for various reasons. I think being given a Like as "public recognition" for providing the correct answer does encourage a poster to keep on contributing information to the What-Is-It forum.

I think the top solvers would probably be contended for between TheCannonballGuy, Kuger, taz42o, and NOLA_Ken. Consistently.

IMHO T-Net has the greatest assemblage of ID ers on the net.I have to tribute a great deal of my knowledge to it!

I think DCMatt should be included in that list as well

Kuger, I agree. Big Cypress Hunter really dug into research for ID's. I haven't seen him very much since the software change.

TheCannonballGuy, The 'like' program is a good one, and I too do the same as you by clicking 'like' for those who provide correct IDs.

Don't forget to add Bramblefind to the list. She comes up with some of the best ID's on obscure items. nhbenz is another one.

I was wondering about that, two days ago, so I did some searching. BigCypressHunter recently posted (in another area of TreasureNet) that he is now living in his camper at a very-rural location in Florida, and his only access to the Internet (via his laptop) happens on a once-a-week visit to a McDonald's restaurant which has WiFi for its customers.

I badly miss his presence in the What-Is-It forum. In my view, he and long-vanished PBK have to rank as the tip-top alltime Grandmasters of correct IDs here.

Bringing this post back to this discussion-thread's main subject (giving "Likes" for correct ID answers):
To show my appreciation, I'm going to look through BigCypressHunter's thousands of What-Is-It answer posts to add a bunch more "Likes" to his ranking. (Most of his posts were made in the years before the "Like" option became available at TreasureNet.)

How to do that:
When you left-click on a poster's name, you'll see the option to "View Forum Posts." Click on that and you'll see a complete list of that person's past posts. (Note, you have to be "Logged-In" to use that option.)

Thanks; I appreciate it! Yes, you're right; I guess that can of worms has been opened because immediately after I hit the post button, various names and their areas of expertise were popping in my head.
