ID this buckle

Anyone have an approx date on a buckle of this style. Or its use? This site goes from colonial times to modern. Wooded site nearby my house. Seems to be made of brass. Tried to get a picture of the way it is put together. Any ideas?

Looks like a door-knocker to me.

Kind of small ( note the brass from a shotgun shell) and does not look to be hinged, so I doubt it is a door knocker, but I can see where you get the idea, has the right shape. I would go with the door pull.
