moondog2000 said:It might be WW1 trench art judging by the age of the men. I collect WW1 militaria and I have never seen a knife like this but I have seen workmanship like this come out of the trenches. The cross inlay is not a Christan cross but some thing belonging to a Nordic country. I believe I have seen that cross used by the Germans in some of there trench art. not all there crosses looked like a Maltese cross. If you could find out if grandpa was in WW1 I would strongly believe it came from over there. This is all my 2 cents, I hoped I helped you a little. Mike
I was thinking the same thing about the clothing on the hand, maybe even earlier. It's a sweet looking knife but I don't know anything about antique knives either. Ditto on the other comments and questions.randazzo1 said:Nice knife - more pictures please! Hand looks like early 19th century clothing. Is the hand applied brass or is it inlaid - also the other symbols are they metal or some kind wood/bone. Very cool whatever it is. I'm thinking 19th century just based on look, but I know nothing this stuff.
Do you know if the blad is iron or steel?
Nice find.
