I found this??? Cufflink?? the other day with the Deus it was about 9" deep. I believe it is silver, the back says Brevete SGDG (French patent) and CM? There is also a 40 or 404 on the back. Any help with the AGE and ID would be great, Thanks, HH. RCH

What a nice piece! I've never seen a fastener like that. It may be a collar button. The style is mid to late 19th C. Hand engraved. It reminds me of the love tokens that were popular in the late 19th C. often made from silver coins.

I'm with collar button also and from the time DCM has put it. I believe it is a sold silver piece. Nice find!

A unique clue to what it is may be that it has a decorative bird head stud, a very nice find.

if it is french and solid silver, it should be hallmarked. in the first picture to the right of the main marking, it looks like there could be another tiny mark. this may be the silver hallmark, which would be a boar's head design for 800 silver.
