I've gone splash in the river as a kid retrieving a precious hook off a high limb....And it wasn't even mine. Till I got hold of it. L.o.l..

The crane kinda looks like it may have a pile driver hooked to it.Maybe driving piles for tying up barges or boats?

I will go to those lengths, particularly to retrieve the lure on the end of the line.

I am sure that the unlucky bird who may get tangled in the line would be thankful that the fellows retrieved the line intact rather than leaving it as a trap.....even if not intended to be one.

I think the rusty vertical posts are to sink into the bottom and hold the barge in place. The long vertical cage looking thing would be the actual driver.

That photo is kinda deceptive,if you look real close you will see the Basketball Hall of Fame behind the boom, the cage looking thing is the tower holding a basketball. Here's a pic at sunrise.
