Still in shock!
On 8/27/2020 I was heading to work and stopped at my favorite gas station to pick up a package of powdered sugar donettes and an OJ. I usually purchase three $30 scratchers to go along with the breakfast but only on payday. Kind of a treat and I have hit for $500 twice and $100 many times.
When I asked the cashier for three #1's, she said there was only one left. 'Ok, how about the #2's?' She said there were none.
By this time there were a couple people behind me and I never want to be the guy who holds up progress but the cashier, an older lady who is always very sweet, went to the back room to look for more tickets. So now I AM that guy and I could almost hear the frustration building behind me.
She came out of the back room with a bundle of #1's, scanned them into the system, removed the cellophane wrapping and pulled off the first two tickets for me.
I paid and left the store avoiding eye-contact with the annoyed customers I sinned against.
I always wait until I am situated at my desk before scratching my tickets. The last one in the old bundle was no good. Then I scratched the first one from the new batch. WINNER WINNER, SIRLOIN DINNER!
This morning I went back to the station to let her know what happened. She was ECSTATIC and said I made her day! I pulled her hand through the opening on the plexiglass, kissed her wrist, (corona-free of course) then said, 'ok, now use some hand sanitizer'
Her manager was outside smoking a cigarette so the cashier went outside to tell her the good news.
The manager was quite excited also, raised her forearm and said 'I've got goose bumps!'
And lucky for me there was no one in line to piss off this time!
