So I've been detecting a late 1800's house in town, and methodically gridding off the front and back yard. This was probably at least my 5th or 6th trip there.
I was there about a week ago but the ground was still frozen. I stopped by today for my last hunt at this house, and was pleasantly surprised in the backyard.
Let me first mention that the only coins other than clad, have been wheat pennies, a mid 1800's 5 Centimes, and one Merc dime.
Today, I could not believe my eyes when I spotted a tiny coin in the plug. At first I thought it was one of those 1950's play money coins again, but it turned out to be.............
An 1858"O" Seated Liberty Half Dime!!!! :headbang::hello2::icon_thumright::headbang::hello2:
I was starting to have doubts recently if my old detector was still up to snuff, but my Mighty Tesoro Vaquero proved it's worth once again!
I have never dug a seated Liberty half dime before, only an 1833 Capped Bust half dime. So I can check this one off the bucket list.

Other finds were:
*An Asian mystery coin with "10" on it.
Anyone able to I.D. this coin? Age?

*Tent tensioner, Large screw, Brass faucet knob, Folding Carolina Tractor pocket knife, Pulley, Face of a Compass, 1960's Pepsodent tube, 1950"D" wheat.

I will be making this homeowner a relic display as my way of thanking her. Will post it when I'm done with it.

Thanks for l@@king Folks,
MM

Great post... I've got a tesoro compadre and have wondered the same...and huge congratulations on your silver seated half liberty dime!
Thank you. I started with the Silver uMax and found a ton of relics and coins with that little machine. I still have it.
I kept hearing how deep the Vaquero went so I decided to try it. I still love it.
One day I will have to see what all of these high tech detectors are all about.

I've wanted to get the equinox 800 but it's pricey...I sometimes wonder if it's mostly just finding the right location....

Just curious.... any way to see backside of the "faucet knob". ?
Ask and you shall receive. It looks pretty old.

In 35 years I to have found only ONE Seated Liberty half dime, with a hole punched into it to string together. an 1848. It is one of my favorite find's. So small, and with the hole, so personal. So glad you found it.

My 1833 capped bust half dime was holed . I thought the same thing too, how personal that holed coin was to someone. Thanks for the reply. πŸ‘

I was hoping for maybe another Merc when I went over there yesterday Merf.
I was so happy to find that coin. I always see detecting videos of people digging these coins. My day finally came. πŸ‘
