Hey there, fellow hunters.

I wanted to share a couple of pics with you.

The first pic is an assortment of foreign coins, tokens, and thingies I have found in the last while. All kinds of weird stuff in there.

The coins in the second pic mean a lot to me. Like I said in another thread, most of my goodies were stolen over the years, mainly in two seperate robberies. Somehow--miraculously--this wheat collection is original to my lifetime of treasure hunting. Some of these coins are the only survivors of coins that I found when I was just a kid. The rules for this collection are that I must actually find the coin, not buy it. All these have either been dug or randomly found in my change. I didn't do any roll-hunting for any of them, either. Along the way I have upgraded each coin whenever I found one in better condition. Amazingly, after hunting like a psycho maniac for 29 years, I still have 21 holes left in my collection. These are mostly just the Philadelphia and Denver mint coins. The only S-mint coins I am missing are the 1909 regular and the 1931. I watched a friend of mine dig a 1931-S right in front of me one time. Someday, probably when I retire and start traveling all over the place, I hope to complete this set of found coins.

I just read your post on finding the 1909s vdb. That was one incredible find. I've been detecting a long time but never found one, nor have I ever heard of anyone finding one. A friend once found an 1877 Indianhead. He traded it to a guy for a 20 dollar gold piece.
I have found two 1909-s Lincolns, but no svdb.

Don't feel too bad about scratching the coin. I also have a tendency to scratch a few.
Here is a pic of one that still makes me sick.

Thanks for the compliments BK! Re your marred coin: OUCH! Still, that is one beautiful find, no matter how you slice it. (no pun intended lol)

Great attitude,
the same happened to me
and I just keep digging...
at least I got the kids.
Worth more than any coin or gold ring!!

Smiles!

Thanks BDoo! Yep, me too--I just keep diggin'.

Nice finds. I was wondering what that coin is in the center, the one that looks like a washer with square cut center asian like writing on it. I found one also and never seen anything siilar till now.

Well gracious sakes alive, I haven't looked in this forum in an eon or two and now that I have I see here you've bumped an old thread of mine and are taunting me into posting something. ::)

Thanks! That coin you are referring to is a Chinese 'cash' coin.

Wow!! This is a blast from the past!! Matty...where are you?? 8) ???

I've been here silently lurking, drooling incessantly at the plethora of treasures all of you have been pulling from the ground.

Some of you may remember last year I was hot on the hunt for a large cent, having secured permission to hunt some land that had several pioneer era homesites on it. Well this year when I checked in with those from whom I had secured permission, they told me they had changed their minds! No, nothing I did wrong--they were afraid of the 'new' antiquities law and they were afraid they were going to get busted for letting me remove artifacts.

I'm still whining about it all now several months later, and honestly I haven't felt like posting because of it. ...It does feel good to vent about it publicly, I must say.... So yeah, after spending a whole year doing countless hours of research both online and in the historical society archives, pouring over maps and satellite pics, and then bazillions of tons of tramping around in the bushes doing fieldwork in preperation to properly hunt the site this spring (vegetation issues kept me from hunting it properly last year), and then getting told NO, you can't hunt here anymore AT ALL.....

I guess I just blew a metal detecting gasket.

I have been out detecting, though--just not posting about it.

I feel better now that I've posted. :)

Good to see you, Matty!! :)

I'm sorry about you blowing your gasket.....and glad to hear that you're still looking for that elusive large cent. :-*

Aww, thanks you guys!

Lisa dunno if you can qualify where I've been hunting as "looking for a large cent", but I'll let it go... :D

True though, I probably should be getting back on my research 'horse' and finding me a new spot like that one to hunt. Barbers and indians aren't too bad I guess, but a large cent or something else that old sure would make a nice addition to my resume'. ;)

well come back dirt bag ::) ;D
