Hey there, fellow hunters.

I wanted to share a couple of pics with you.

The first pic is an assortment of foreign coins, tokens, and thingies I have found in the last while. All kinds of weird stuff in there.

The coins in the second pic mean a lot to me. Like I said in another thread, most of my goodies were stolen over the years, mainly in two seperate robberies. Somehow--miraculously--this wheat collection is original to my lifetime of treasure hunting. Some of these coins are the only survivors of coins that I found when I was just a kid. The rules for this collection are that I must actually find the coin, not buy it. All these have either been dug or randomly found in my change. I didn't do any roll-hunting for any of them, either. Along the way I have upgraded each coin whenever I found one in better condition. Amazingly, after hunting like a psycho maniac for 29 years, I still have 21 holes left in my collection. These are mostly just the Philadelphia and Denver mint coins. The only S-mint coins I am missing are the 1909 regular and the 1931. I watched a friend of mine dig a 1931-S right in front of me one time. Someday, probably when I retire and start traveling all over the place, I hope to complete this set of found coins.

Very nice wheats! How did you get them so clean? I am wanting to do a wheat collection as well of just coins I have found while detecting, but they never look too good.

I do have a nice album for my found mercury dimes and washington quarters, but they come out of the ground and don't really require any cleaning.

Thanks Bscofield.

The cleaner ones are ones that I found in my change (but without roll-hunting).  I waited tables for many years, so I did see a lot of change come around.  Since I have always upgraded my collection with the nicest specimens I've ever found, there ended up being a good many clean ones.

I've noticed that many of my 'P' and 'D' mints were found in circulation.  Older dug coins around here are almost exclusively 'S' mints, followed by 'D' mints, and then 'P' mints.  I've only found one each of the 'O' and 'CC' mints ever since I started hunting (not wheats, obviously).

Superb collection.

I love that pile of treasure you have their.
A lot of really interesting tokens and stuff.
I could look through that for hours.

Congrats, keep er going!!

Smiles!

Nice penny collection!
I think I only need the '09-s vdb for the complete set. (Thats in 33 years of detecting).
Keep looking and you will get the rest.
It's kind of nice when you can find one you need, or upgrade existing ones. I'm also working on an Indian head cent and Barber/Mercury dime set.

Thanks BK. I've always figured--and I truly mean no offense by this--but I think the midwest probably would be the best place to try and find such a collection. I talked to a guy on the east coast who was missing most of the S mints, but had the others.

I too had a collection going of found indian head pennies, V-nickels, buffalo nickels, and mercury dimes also, but all those got stolen. I had most of the indian heads back to 1878, plus an 1869. Earlier ones are really tough to get in the northwest. I had most of the V-nickels, too. I was proud that in a very newish place like Yakima I had even found both the 1883 "without cents" and "with cents" versions. I don't remember how many buffalo nickels I still needed, but I put a good dent in that collection as well. The mercs I almost had completed, I probably needed 10 or 15 more, but I just don't know. I know I didn't get the 16-D or the 21-P. I did find the 21-D, however.

After all those got stolen I never bothered trying to figure out which ones I had or hadn't found, since the true data was gone for good. I'm just glad (knocking on something) that I was able to at least keep my wheaties all this time.

Ooooooohhhhh....so you're not just another pretty face around here, huh, MLW?

Great collection you have there. I'm sorry to hear about the theft....That musta sucked to have to start all over again. It sounds like you have a good atitude about it and will get there eventually! :)

LOL Thanks Lisa. I didn't even realize I was a 'pretty face'. ::)

Its been years since the last theft, so I'm over it now--though I still miss my XLT which was taken as well.

No use crying over spilt coins.

There are more out there to be found!

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of everything as well! My buddy lost all of his coins, but to divorce... which is almost like theft, haha.

I've been lucky enough to find an 1865, 1867, and 1868 indians so far in my short detecting career. I've also got many of the 1880s through 1900s as well.

Very nice colection......you have quite a collection of neat finds.

You sold a 1909-S VDB? What's the story there......aloha johny mc.

Hi Johny, you can check out the story on my 1909-S VDB on this thread here:

I just read your post on finding the 1909s vdb. That was one incredible find. I've been detecting a long time but never found one, nor have I ever heard of anyone finding one. A friend once found an 1877 Indianhead. He traded it to a guy for a 20 dollar gold piece.
I have found two 1909-s Lincolns, but no svdb.

Don't feel too bad about scratching the coin. I also have a tendency to scratch a few.
Here is a pic of one that still makes me sick.
