Hi Pro. Answering this so that it will pop up on the top of the list.
In some ways it does appear to be a potin, on some ways not. Should be someone here that would know about it. Cru?

A potin has about a quarter of tin in the coin, the patina appears smooth. But could be different according to the ground material i guess. For info look here:

Thanks Earl,

I still have no clue on this one.

11 Potins, lots of Romans, and this thing. Just need to know what pile to put it in.

Hey Daryl, I wish I could help, but this is out of my area. I did want to let you know it's a COOL find  and say welcome back to the States. Breezie

Well I can solve your problem. Just get a pair of shears and cut it in half, put one half in that pile and the other half in the other. Good Huh?

Hi Breezie,

Still across the water. Heading home the end of the month. After walking into the middle of a Roman Villa that showed no signs of being detected, I may slit my wrist trying to find something interesting to hunt in the States. :D

figure holding spear (stick like & crude, not the usual craftmanship of the Roman Mints) on reverse with a kind of radiate head obverse. Has the elements of a barbarous imitation/local issue roman period coin :icon_thumright:

That was my thought as well. The obverse just didn't make any sense. I was expecting some shape resembling a bust. :dontknow:

Its does if you turn it 90 degrees left, the nose & face is poorly executed & typical of the imitations

Lots of the coins came from the Lyon mint. I'm sure they had bad days.

It was surprising that so many of the coins were Celtic and many of the Romans coins seemed to be associated with Gaul. Thin coins with Gods like Mercury, etc.

Gotta love France for that.
