I thought that I had the largest White's coil... I was just proven wrong!!

So some of you all might have remembered back at the end of the Summer, when Jim (grizzly bare) had sent me my White's IDX Pro with the large (I thought the largest there was) Pro coil and the smaller sniper-type coil for trashy areas...

Here's the link to refresh your mind.

Well after a long hard day of working with my dad today, I got home to a fairly large box. Jim had let me know early this past semester that he had planned on sending some "care packages" because he knows how lonely (almost an understatement sometimes) us college kids can get! I opened up the box, and to my surprise there was this MASSIVELY HUGE 15" coil?! I thought it was a dang UFO or something, because I had never seen a coil that big before!!? I read his letter, then realized he said something about there also being books in the box. So I reached it and searched my hand around... and pulled out two of my most wanted books... Volume 3 (Florida) & 6 (Missouri) of Thomas P. Terry's set of treasure books called the United States Treasure Atlas!!!! I'm just beyond being excited because I love reading treasure books and getting new information and treasure leads to follow!

I just want to say "THANK YOU so very much!!" to Jim... you're truly one of a kind!!

Bran,
Thanks for being so kind, but as I put in my (too short) letter, I found that 1500 in the back of a storage closet when I was digging out Christmas decorations. I knew I didn't have a detector that it would fit so I sent it along to you.
WARNING! You're a young guy, but for an old bare swiinging that coil got pretty tiring quickly.
I have three sets of the Terry books. (I've got a great family who listens to what I grumble about and gets me lots better than ties and underwear for Christmas) Each of my personal books is dogeared and hi-lited and I dream about taking detecting trips to spots that I have cross referenced in other sources.
Many of the TNet family had those same slow days in college. I remember when a letter from a friend could have really perked me up.
Anyway, have fun with the 1500 coil. It will give you a bit more depth...but with lessened discrimination. That's the trade-off we have to bear.

Thanks again Grizz... I basically stayed up all night & morning reading the treasure atlas for Florida!! There's a ton more leads than I had ever knew about previously!!! Now I understand why they also call us the treasure state...
I think I'll have a good handle on that coil, but I've got to admit, that thing's a beast!! lol :)

Let us know how you do with that big coil. They also make a 25" coil, if you can imagine that.
Congrats.

Im the proud owner of a 15 incher, I got one of the coils also. :D We call it the purple people eater or PPE for short. I must warn you if you plan on swinging the PPE much get a hip mount kit from Whites. The PPE after swinging it an hour or so is like swinging a dump truck. It gets heavy fast! If the end of your pole breaks and the coil gets airborn it could kill somebody! But the added depth is worth it. Also pinpointing is kind of a pain when using the PPE so if you dont have a handheld pinponter this is a great excuse to purchase one. If you have any more questions about the coil drop me a PM.

Now THIS is why I love TNet. An offer of help from an experienced detectorist with no strings attached. TNetters have got to be the kindest people anywhere.
Bran, here's a second caution (KFB)about the weight. It's a good coil, but watch your back and arms.
BTW, Bran, do you have a copy of Robert Marx "Buried Treasure you can find"?

Thanks for the good tips, KFB! I won't be able to get a harness before I head out today to use it...

Jim, I definitely agree... ya'll are by far the kindest people anywhere!!
I'll try to watch my back & arms. Oh, since I know you have extras... go to Volume 3, Pg. 247, 488A-D... my adopted bro, Joey, and myself are heading out there NOW! We can't get to Caladesia Island because we don't have a boat. But we're going to hit up right North of there, across the waterway.
And I do not that book you mentioned by Marx. I don't think I've heard of that one...
Wish me luck!

'Those darn detectorists, always lying about depth! :D

Bran, I asked because I have two of those, but one is a print error. The pages for Florida and Missouri seem to be okay, though. At a later date I'll throw it in an envelope and send it snail mail.

Hey, that'd be nice! I really appreciate it... so an update on today. We ended up hiking about 4 1/2 to 5 miles up the island to the very North end... and Joey ended up finding a dead eel (kinda cool), and I found a dime and a broken piece of copper (at least I think it's copper?) I wish we had brought a couple of Wal-mart bags or something, because we found TONS of washed up sponges all along the other side of the island!! It would've been sweet to clean them in a light bleach and hot water solution... especially since people usually dive for them at Tarpon Springs on the Sponge Docks and sell them. We walked so far, that by the time we turned around, it was almost sunset. We seemed to walk forever, until it was almost dark coming back down the beach. And right when we were getting extremely tired, the park ranger came to our rescue in his truck and gave us a lift back to our car. Apparently he saw our car and knew there were still people out there. I was afraid he was going to be upset over it, but he was really nice and funny, so he probably has it happen all the time. But overall, it was a great time! Even if we didn't get many signals. :)
