Yeah that got your attention I'm sure.I know I have a lead spill(far right bottom )a bent buckle of some sorts (CW era possibly?), a small ring of some sort, an odd shaped crusty lead whatzit, four iron items help together by an iron loop, and the two pieces on the bottom. The things I want to identify are the two long knife like objects found in the same hole on the bottom of my picture. I'm thing Civil War scalpel, bleeder,or possibly an ink eraser as I was told often mistakes were scraped off in this fashion. These objects were found in the lines of battle so my mind is ticking.

Here's a better picture showing what I think is the rusted "blade." You can see where the items were joined when it was complete. Often these were encased with bone handles or even leather sometimes.

Your two pieces at the bottom are the handle of a straight razor.
Your 4 things on a ring remind me of the two hole paper holders.
The kind that had the U shaped metal that went up through the paper and then through the two holes in your piece and then bent over to hold it.
What does the back of your buckle look like??

I've seen those 4 things on a ring before, but my brain is as crusty & rusty as your finds. Might be those two hole paper holders, but I don't think so - the holes are two small....

The thing that makes me think that the object is not a straight razor is the blade, see it's pointed just like these depicted as blood letters or scalpels.Ive seen CW straight razors and this isn't like that. The back of the buckle is hollow, same shape of course as the front. Here are pictures of two bloodletting tools I found on the internet.

I know it isn't right and I'm glad no one is hurt but I have to admit, I snickered when I read the title to this thread. 8-)

The "blades" in question look a lot like pocketknife components I've found before. Only puzzling thing is the little rusted piece sticking out. It does look like the blood letter thing you posted.

Perhaps a letter opener? No idea

Cool Finds! :icon_thumleft: Could the item in the center, top row (four pieces of metal with a ring) be the bottom splines to one of those old hand fans?

I'm thinking they're modern era those blades. Will get the mister to throw them in an electrolysis bath and see.

That buckle looking thing definitely has a football on it. You can see the grip stitch on it and everything. Don't think that's CW era.

Why shouldn't the belt buckle with the "football"* be old?
History of Football

(*For us Europeans this is still a Rugby ball...)

Didn't say that it wasn't old, just saying that it doesn't seem to be CW era as OP was speculating to. Your link also proves that football wasn't picked up in America until after the CW. (Almost 15 years to be exact) But in all honesty, thank you for that link, I didn't realize how old football really was :)

Interesting link yaxthri, thanks. That buckle has me stumped too.

I think the two long items are just spatulas used in cake / candymaking, the football thing is a mold for candy making, and the four items looped together are for documents/paper holding. I have 3 of them on my desk as I type this. Just my 2 cents worth tho. ...Rick...

I have one of those tools you pictured. I was told that it was a scraper for removing mistakes when pen and ink were used (after the ink dried). Very interesting, thanks, deldave
