Very nice! With my luck, I would have ended up putting a gouge in it with my digging tool, and then I would have spit on it and rubbed off the dirt to see what the heck it was that I found.

Good job keeping it "as dug" and leaving it up to the pros to clean and preserve properly.

That is a truly breathtaking find!! :wav:

You're right!! You just hit the lottery!! That's a metal detectorist dream come true!!

Major Congrats!! I can't wait to see it slabbed and cleaned!!

A chain cent? Well, there's something else I learned here! Never heard of one before. Thanks for the pic, Nick.

Congratulations to you, jfx55, on your most awsome and rare find!!! I don't know what I'd do if I ever saw something as old & rare as that in my hand on a hunt! Nice work!!!

Hey JFX ... you hit the Chain Cent lottery twice ! YES...You found a chain cent AND it doesnt have a hole drilled in it !

Had I found it it would have 6 holes drilled in it PLUS initials carved in it :laughing9:

D. Dude, if I had found it, it would be cut in half...and bent at a right angle...and with 1793 holes punched through it. :D :D :D

D. Dude, you are bound to find one in your neck of the Colonial hunting country. Heck, you got a mint state 1797 Flowing Hair half dime! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: I still can't stop :notworthy: to that find! :notworthy:

WOW......Congrats on that obvious find of the year! And yes the Analog detecters rock...I found my meesly 1812 LC with one...Yours blows that away! Great Job....jgas

Soooo, are you going to send it away? :dontknow:

The detail below that caked dirt is not going to chip away. :nono: You should take a toothpick and chip the dirt off of the opposite side of the exposed chain. :icon_salut:
