I panned about a 1/4 cup of some purchased dirt. I found a couple of flakes, but I also saw something shiny. Looked almost like glass, but was flaky and the color was silvery. The purchased dirt was more like sand. So is this that I saw part of the sand? Just wondering if it is something worth saving or part of the sand.

Is mica shiny, looks like glsss or silver?

without a pic I'll guess miley cyrus

I agree with all the other responses. Mica. Very thin, flaky, brittle, glassy look. I got a lot of that in my first pans trying out panning the last few weeks. Pretty much worthless.

Ok thanks, I hadn't seen it before, thanks for the quick responce.

I found the same flakey, shinny, silvery material in paydirt I've panned. Mostly paydirt from Washington & California & recently paydirt from Arizona that I'm panning now. I have orders coming from Alaska, Colorado & Vermont, anxious to see what I find.

Happy panning!!

I found 3 flakes in about a 1/4 cup so that looks promising, still have a lot to do. But have to wait till next weekend. I had to hit the road this morning. I will post a picture next week.
