Back to the mansion and again, not a lot but oh such a NICE day to hunt! I enjoyed every minute!

Here's the pile:

...and after their bath:

The following were all found pretty close together.

They're not magnetic and appear to be be somewhat flattened for some reason.

If you look close, this piece has a design on it, sort of a flower?
They were where I said "WhadIfind" the first time today. :)

This section of ground was not very kind to the pennies. But, isn't it interesting how one coin fairs better than another in almost the same spot?

Another metal toy, headless unfortunately. A cowboy, I think.

At least I could read one of the bullets.

Now.....I just gotta ask. If you saw this blob of metal down at the bottom of a 9 inch hole. What would you think? Would you be tempted to just say R.I.P. and just cover it back up? ;)

I was.

But no, since I got this deep I just had to see. It was just lying there so I didn't have to pry or anything. The damage was already done to this one before I got there.

And after some soap & water:

I think I know why this was out in the yard, 9 inches down.

When the owner figured out he'd been taken with a counterfeit he threw it as far as he could! LOL

Ever see the like?

Thanks for peeking.

Great finds and Story HH Chug

What kind of coin was the "seated" supposed to have been?

Well, if I don't miss my guess, I think it was a half dollar. The curvature is similar to the seated half I found back a bit. :dontknow:

Does ANYONE think a real one could deteriorate like this? I know the clad will, but this?

Looks like the headless horseman is a cowboy wearing angora chaps. The counterfeit coin is something else. We had a guy out this way that in the mid 1800's was a millwright. He wasn't making enough money so he started making money by casting silver dollars out of Babbitt, which is a hard lead type metal used in bearings in those days, easy to melt and pour but much harder than lead. He got busted, and did time in the big house, but they figured they never got all the dollars he cast. My dream is to find one of those, or a stash of them.

Definitely funny money :) I think the fakes are a lot more interesting than the real McCoy. Great find there!!

Yep, I suppose I tend to agree, they're more interesting. BUT, I think, given the choice, I'd rather find the real McCoy. LOL

Nobody has even commented that there was ONLY one clad coin found during the whole hunt! There is something very nice about that, ya know? :)

Thanks for the response!
