I need pictures of all the trash, pull tabs, shredded aluminium, and especially all the bullets, razor blades and other sharp objects found in parks and mainly tot lots. I have contacted a local TV station in Austin, TX where it is illegal to use detectors and they may do a story on it. I posted this on the Texas part of the forum, but pics of the bad stuff found from places that allow it would be most helpfull. Here is the other post:

I sent a letter off to TV channel 4 news in Austin to the communitys service deptment about the good we as detectorist do for the parks where our kids play. Following is their response back. If this happens, I may need others around the Austin area to bring their trash and dangerous objects they find in parks. Please let me know if you can help if this happens. I will be contacting the Austin Metal Detecting club about this also. Their response is as follows:

I have a story for your Investigates feature. The city of Austin,
Travis county, and LCRA do not allow metal detectors in their parks.
Williamson county there is no problem with the use of detectors. I would
like to show the people of Travis county and Austin the good we do using
detectors in parks. I would like to show the vast amounts of trash, pull
tabs, sharp aluminium shards, bullets, razor blades, and other dangerous
objects that we find in parks where the kids play. By not allowing
detectors in the parks of Travis county, the kids are in more danger
than most people realize, We clan the parks for pennies an hour,
literally, of the "dangerous" types of trash that no one else cleans up.
I would like to show that we are not the destroyers of parks, we are
actually the people who keep the parks clean and safe for our kids. I
have all the evidence to back this up if needed. Thank you for your

Here's a nasty piece I pulled out awhile back. Its aluminum, about 3 inches long. Also had a shot of a used needle, but I dumped it-

Here's the trash pile from a two day hunt in four different schoolyard woodchips. I estimate there is about 10 pounds of junk here. In this pile, there are some dangerous items including many jaged, twisted pieces of steel and aluminum, a broken off still sharp steak knife blade, two industrial razor blades, and various pieces of glass that I see and pick up.



I will get some more shots and add them here PM.

OMG Piggman....that is what I have been working over here on the East Coast (Virginia Beach)...working on posters to present to the city to have posted on the beaches....

I wanted everyone to know, that we are not out for the gold and silvers and coins...that we do good as well...by picking up others trash.

I was hoping to get out these last couple of days to take pics of the beach with all the trash strewn about to add to my "quest" and then show pics of items, I alone, have detected, but it's so freakin' hot....I'm off this weekend and hopefully the weather will be somewhat cooler where I can get out and detect and take some pics. Sure wish I took a pic of that nasty (ewwwwwwwww) stinky baby diaper at the beach, just laying in plain view!!!!

Hmmmm...Wavy 10 on Your Side might be a good one here...and maybe, they can connect with your station....get it nationwide...

Wow...can't believe we were thinking the same wave length with so many states between us!!!

WTG!!!!!!!!!!! Hope it works out well on your end...will let you know how my end pans through!!!

Hopefully if they will do this story it will at least get a foot in the door and maybe open some eyes. I want to literally scare people into seeing what their kids are playing around, where they are thinking everything is nice and safe, and I want them to know that we are the only ones that really do anything to keep it that way. If we can just get the public aware of the good we do maybe we can open up some new places and keep this hobby going into the future. It would be great if TV stations across the US would run just one showing on their community service clips. I think we could get things changed. All it takes is contacting the stations and have the evidence to back it up. When it comes to keeping kids safe, they seem to jump on those types of stories. It would be nice if everyone contacted their stations, we could all share the photos of what has been found, and just playing the odds, some stations are going to do a story on it. That's all we need, a foot in the door.

Come on guys and gals, we need more pictures of trash and "dangerous" items found in the parks, especially tot lots. This is how they get us banned from more places every day. Everyone complains, but very few are willing to get involved, or do anything to try and stop it. I need more pics. My thanks goes out to the few that have sent some really good pictures, but I need more of you detectorist to get involved.

The first pic is a couple pounds of lead pipe i found in a baseball diamond

The second pic is a nice shot of rusty arrow heads (those are always fun to play with)

The last pic is assorted goodies i come across (the brass knuckles are ironically made of lead)

And lastly, the standard live bullet (plus a "dangerous" silver plated penny)

Tell me if any of the pics i sent end up in the program, i would love to help you out

These pics are great. Hope you have a good trip to FL. Thanks, we need all the help we can get. I'm checking on going in front of the Austin city council to propose they change their ordinance dealing with city parks. If I do, I've got a lot of trash and such to take with me to get the point across.
