I need a different coil for my MXT

I don't know about the coil. I do know that I hunted an area yesterday that had the soil conditions you mention. I don't have any plans to return to that area. You haven't had your MD long .....maybe after some practice you will get use to your machine and learn the difference in trash, etc.....good luck.....

Whites has double DD coils for just that and If I'm not misaken you can go to KelloCo and check out the Excellerator coils that will fit the MXT.
Good Luck

Get the 4X6 DD for heavy trash or the 6X10 DD if it's a little trashy and you still want to cover some ground. I use both. Which one I have on depends on the amount of trash. Oh one other, many people sear by the 5.3 concentric coil but I have never used it.

Don't get the Excellerator coil for the White's.

Get a factory coil instead, or at least find a WOT coil. The Excellerator coils are a bit inferior to the WOT coils. The factory 950 is only a general purpose coil and the smaller and larger White's coils would work better in bad ground, especially the smaller ones. Smaller coils only lose about 1/2 inch in the ground at the most and cherry-pick better and consequently discriminate better too.

I use a factory 3" coil on my favorite detector and it only loses 1/2" in the real nasty dirt - and in some cases GAINS that much over it's factory 8" coil.

Get the 6X9" DD elliptical coil, It will improve stability with the MXT in mineralized soil and get great sepration.

You'll never go back to your stock 950 coil, For any type of detecting.

I forgot to tell you something..

They ain't cheap.

Or, if you want the same depth plus have a different brand detector with a DD already built right into it, that's a good way to go too. Personally, I would stick with White's smaller coils for my uses. Yours might be different, especially your soil conditions..
