Detector(s) used
Whites V3i - Ace 250 (backup) - Garrett Pro Pointer - Lesche Digger
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I am always seeing people post about the E-trac find this or that or something but no one mentions the v3i like they do the E-trac

I am extremely happy with my v3i and i do great with it... but I sure would like to know how that E-trac performs compared to the v3i anyone have real actual experience with both machines?

Whats the deal? Details please

P.S. I really like the lighted color screen on the v3i... I know that isn't a good reason to buy a detector but for me it was one.

Yes, its my first post here. I have been detecting 35+ years.
I bought the etrac, used it approximately 100 hours.
It's probably just me, but after 100 hours I still could not make good sense of the numbers. I spent more time scanning and rescanning a target trying to get good, solid, repeating sounds.
I ordered the v3i and found that I was correctly identifying and digging coins the first day.
I have found more coins in 15 hours with the v than I did with the e in 100 hours.
I hunt almost everytime with an Etrac owner who has had his machine over a year and probably hunts 3 or more days per week.
He is always asking me to come scan a target he has found to see if I can hit on it. So far, I can hit every target with the v that he can with the E, so I don't agree that the e is so much deeper seeking.
This is my opinion and, as I said, the etrac now stays home.
BTW- I own 2 cz6A, 1235x, etrac and the V.

I've owned both and done a lot of head-to-head testing. What I found was both are great detectors and actually very very close on flat out depth ability on coins. That being said, I did feel the E-Trac, right out of the box, would be easier for someone to find those really deep coins in hard hit sites. The V3i seeing those same deep coins, but is a bit more iffy on the ID'ing side. Once you get to know the V3i It kicks butt right along side the E-Trac with no problem. The V3i I felt was a much better jewelry, relic and prospecting detector. The E-Trac seemed to do one thing extremely well, deep coins in iron infested sites, but was pretty average in the other types of hunting. The V3i was above average in all aspects of hunting.

Just a couple of things to mention...

If you are using the numbers on an E-trac, you're doing it wrong. Go by sound and depth. That's all you need. High tone and deep, then dig it. It's as simple as it can get.

Also, there are lots of E-Trac / Explorer users that even after years can't detect themselves out of a paper bag. We have one of those E-Trac guys in our club. It's certainly no magic wand and not for everybody. I don't even know if he finds more than 1 or 2 silver a year with it to be honest. I know I've never seen him do it in person. Some people take the "go slow with a minelab" way too literally, and he is one of them. I can detect a quarter mile and back before he has gone 100 ft.

Hugs to Keppy.

I am the first to say "it's probably me" but I think the etrac is much more difficult to learn and use than the v3i.
Will the etrac go deeper? Don't know. Is the etrac better in trash? Don't know. I only know that that I leave the etrac at home and have a blast with the v3i!

As I've said before: different strokes for different folks....some like white bread.....some like wheat bread.....some like color screen.....some like monochrome. LOL :tard:
