Here is a photo of Lydia Lobsiger receiving a check from the FDIC in 1934. She was the first person to get her insured funds from the FDIC after her bank closed.
This year, the FDIC celebrates it's 75th anniversary. We (the FDIC) are trying to locate the family of Lydia Lobsiger and/or her granddaughter, Harriet, who was 3 years old at the time of this photo.
At www.fdic.gov, after clicking on "about FDIC," then "history of the FDIC," there's also a newsreel clip of Lobsiger receiving her FDIC check. Harriet (and presumably her mother) appear in the film.
Lydia lived in East Peoria, IL. There is a nice column in today's Chicago Tribune about the FDIC and it's history.
