Several years ago while visiting in Maryland I was MD in a
garden and dug this Hand Gernade. The house was built
in the late 40's by the present owner.
They don't have any idea where this thing came from.
The primer end hole is threaded, the brass filling plug
is stuck, and the bottom hole and hanger knob are seized,
and the detonator and trigger are gone.
Other than that it's in good working order.
Anyone have any thoughts about origin?

Is this not "Banner" worthy...??

The value and rarity are certainly there in my opinion.
Maybe its not a politcally correct item... :dontknow:

$1500-2500......and only maybe a dozen known to exist in private collections?

Allen, are you saying somebody should make this into
a paperweight, or it is already a paperweight?

It looks like to me someone has made it into a paperweight.
I know it would be an awesome conversational piece and cool find.

It's untouched, and unaltered. It is in the
original state as seen on the original blue print
drawing. Since there are only 12 known to be
left out of less than 1000 manufactured it
doesn't pay to alter it in any way.
Thanks for the comment and happy
hunting to you.

Probably because it's not a recent find...

romeo-1, How does the time line of a posting
about a MD find have any bearing on it's merit??

Very few, if any, of the artifacts that I have detected
and dug over the years had expiration dates on
them.

Romeo1 is saying since this was not found recently
it is not available to be on the banner.

Allen,
Just checked with moderator,
Date of dig has nothing to do with
date of posting. Just thought I would
let you know.

I think this matter has run it's course.
