I Know What It Is, But I Don't Know What Caliber Or Era

Hello all, it has been a long time since I've posted on here and hope all are doing well. I have something a lot easier than the pig nuts to identify...I can hear the sighs now. I found this old round a while back and would like to know the caliber, and era of this shell. It measures 9" long, and 3" wide. It is very heavy. This is an easy one and I know it won't be long before I know exactly what it is, and what it was fired from. Thanks for any help, and I hope you have all found a fortune since I've been gone. :D

Exactly 9" tall, and weighs about 15 to 20 pounds.

My guess is a Navel 3 inch rifle projectail. It has been fired. Notice the rifling engraved in the cannular (spelling) grove near the base. This engraving was done as the round passed through the bore of the rifle. It is probably a solid practice round (much cheaper to shoot) Probably washed up on a beach, or skipped up there. It would orginally have been painted blue, probably cleaned up and painted red to make a display.

Just weighed it and it weighs 15.4 pounds. It very well could have been repainted for a decoration a long time ago. The material inside the hole is hard like concrete, but not concrete.

Hey Piggman, can you tell us where it was originally found?

It has been so many years ago that I don't really remember, but I think I found it in an old house outside of Austin, TX. My memory isn't quite as good as it used to be ;D

Then it wasn't dug I take it, so it could have come from anywhere around the world as a souvenir?

If you hear it fizzing, sputtering or making any unusual sound, you can bet your sweet A$$ that you'll remember how to run like a stripped you-know-what. Memory is a funny thing. ;D

It could be a training dummy and then again, it could be live ordinance...

I'd bet that you can contact a local Armory or base and talk with a range Sarge...
