A few friends and I decided to hit an old school this morning and all in all we didn't do too terrible. But, that's not the point of this post.
Along toward the end of the hunt we decided to compare skills/detectors. There was a fair array of old detectors and detectorists present. Actually, quite a little bit of cumulative experience if one was to add up all the years. There was an old Bounty Hunter, a White's, an old Garrett but I forget the model, an AT-Pro and, of course, my good ole Garrett Groundhog with 10 inch coil.
I'll try not to be too boring. Basically it all came down to this one last hit we all took turns hitting before digging. The idea was for each to come up with what exactly they thought the target was before we dug.
One said an old, solid bottle cap, one said it was probably a penny with a nail nearby, one said surely it was a dime, another said he thought it was probably a piece of jewelry or small ring. I listened intently and after several passes from different angles and modes, TR/VLF (remember, the meter is busted on my machine), I said I was having a lot of trouble pinning it down. I actually said "It is a strange hit, More a half a hit then a whole one." Don't know why, but that's what it seemed to me. I also said, "There seems to be a hint of silver in the tone but maybe a pulltab or nickel."
There you have it. Now, ready for the joke?
Look what it turned out to be.
I had the honors of digging and very carefully removed soil until it showed itself. So, I was the first one to see it and when I did, I just rolled back on to my back and started laughing out loud! Don't know the last time when I laughed this hard. After the rest saw the target I had company all over the hill.
What a sight we must've made if anyone saw us laying there laughing!
LOL - STILL!!!
Here it is:
A little closer up:
AND, wait for it.
A HINT OF SILVER!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!
HH but more importantly, have fun out there! LOL
