I have been on this site for over 7 years, can I rescue my old account name?

Of course I now have a new account that is doing fine but I would like to see if my old account is still able to be logged in to. It has been at least 4-5 years since I last logged in, do the accounts that old with no activity just go away? Any admin who can answer . . I would sincerely appreciate it.
