I have an XLT

Hi Shadowcat,
My XLT seems to be the older model though as I understand it they are still the same machine. When I purchased it new, seems like a lifetime ago, I bought it with the large coil with the center hole (~ 9.75" O.D.) and the Blue Max 600 deepscan coil (~ 6.75" O.D.). Recently I've added the Blue Max 350 Snooper coil (~ 5.00" O.D.) as well as the Blue Max Shooter DD(~ 3.375" x 6.75"). Seems you've unearthed some info on an "800" coil with two different title indications and I will be interested in the responses you receive about the two 800's.

From what I've read about the SunRay probe I would think you are enjoying it!

I've not enough time on my XLT to give you any input whatsoever about the coils though just recently I used the BM Shooter DD oval coil and found it would really show to me that there were several targets in the area I was swinging it in. My shoulder surgery keeps me from doing much and swinging/pinpointing/probing with one arm is not easy. As I recall in using the BM 350 it found coins as well as the oval unit and both worked right along with the electronics of the machine and both pinpointed well.

198_9871.JPG This shows the four coils I have as well as the logo on my XLT Spectrum. In the title of the book in the picture it says it is for the DFX however quite a bit of it covers the XLT. I have two of these books, was recently and kindly gifted with the second, and will part with one of them if you can use it, PM me about it. Best of luck with your coil search.

Hey 63! Yes I do like my sunray probe, works great! As far as the coils, I know that the royal 800 is the newer version of the blue max 800, just wondering if the royal 800 was a little better? I have that same blue max 600 that you have and seems to work good. Hard to find a royal 800, I think those who have them, really like them! I've been really bummed out lately, I haven't been detecting in almost 6 months, the winter here in northern minn is lasting forever, and I'm goin crazy wondering when I can get out! Hope alls well with u and hope yer gettin out finding treasure for us stuck up here with 2 feet of snow still on the ground! HH

Yes, they are functionally the exact same coils. The Royal 800 is the newer version of the two. The plastic on the body is the same color as the Royal GT headphones. See a pattern here?
The difference is strictly color and sticker.

Here's a good book on the XLT if you can still find it:

I've had both the 800 Royal Scan and the 800 Precision Scan. Both have the same coil housing geometry. The Royal has a thicker cable and a more robust restraining connector at the coil. There is also a model of the 800 Precision scan that is more a pancake style coil. I think the 8" coils are great with very similar depth to the 950. They also allow the XLT to run at higher sensitivity than the 950 in the same conditions.

I've had my XLT Spectrum for 16 yrs. I use my 9.5 for 98% of my detecting . Also have the 5.3 Black Max that is used for tight trashy areas . But when I need to look for the big DEEP objects , I hook up the 25 inch loop that effectively turns inches into feet . The XLT is an awesome machine for everything except diving under water or a dedicated gold nugget finder ...... LOL.....

I would love to learn more about the finds using that huge loop!

Honestly to date , I've only helped find a 2 ft. diameter gasline @ 7 ft. depth , pond culvert @ 5 ft. depth and contractors find deep septic tanks for excavation purposes . Whites programed the 25 inch coil to read feet perfectly in the XLT . It still amazes me how acurate it is . But , if anyone would ever need my assistance in locating a large deep object ( especially treasure ) , please feel free to contact me here . If it's more than say 50 miles , I'd only ask to be reimbursed for gas for the trip . HH .

That certainly gives you some sort of bragging rights. I don't know anybody that has found anything that deep!
