Whites DFX 300
Crazy day....I'm working in my own yard with my White's DFX 300 not finding much of anything. My wife is working iin the flower bed and finds a 1950 Canadian quarter, but that's not what I'm writing about.....

She then goes to the back yard to plant an azalea bush and while digging the hole finds the item shown in the attached photos.... It cleaned up displaying silver coloring which doesn't show real well in the photos.

The rod on top is fine threaded and appears to be brass.

Any ideas what it is ??

Oil can, back in the day when 3 in 1 oil came in a corked bottle. I believe you could squeeze that in the middle and it would push a few drops of oil out the unscrewed nozzle. neat find. I got one that came from my grandfather, (didn't have to dig it) and I have found a few three-in-one oil bottles in various sizes.
Things were done differently back in the day. ;-)

I agree with the oiler / oil can, as did this seller: OLD Rare Patterned Small Banjo Nickle Plated Brass OIL CAN Oiler VG | eBay
Not that I generally consider a seller's description as proof, just an example of an opinion.

Added note: I included the link to this one only because it matches yours exactly, but I think the above examples essentially drove home the point anyway.
