Here is some pics of a signal cannon I believe? It appears to be old from what I can tell also it looks like someone tried to clean it in one of the areas unfortunately. It also has some weird wear on the top of barrel near the mounting lugs ( sorry to butcher the actual names of the parts or areas of the cannon. ) any help to I'd this would be great and of course value would be great also. Thanks a Lot everyone this is a great websitemml 20191026_111310.jpg20191026_111002.jpg20191026_111002.jpg20191026_111314.jpg20191026_111320.jpg

Wow... been a while since I have seen one of these...

This can be called a "signal cannon" but in reality this was / is a real cannon.

This IMO... is a "working toy cannon"... and ONE OF the best examples I have ever seen.

Why I say "was" is because the touch has been sealed... this was a requirement years ago for sales of these and other cannon... so they could be shipped.

This is bronze and truly OLD ... I mean REAL OLD.

Man o man... when I say this thing is cool... heh.

BUT... in order for me to truly I.D. this... I want to see that bore.

It COULD be an early copy... OR a professional copy.

SO... Pictures down that bore... and opening close-ups IF you want me to respond further.

Very nice. I like the bicolored look. Very classy. Its missing its base and trunnion clamps obviously.

It is a toy but a fancier design than most. Most are just smooth brass monotoned.

I'm having trouble telling if you like this piece or not ARC? :icon_scratch:
I've never seen someone so excited since I mentioned the words "go for walkies" to our dog this morning. :laughing7:

Love to hear the story behind how you came to own this piece Cjanes.
I think all of us wish we had one of these beauties on display in our front yard too.

Actually that one would not be good in the yard... for it would "walk off" very shortly after placement I am sure.

Wonderful old age and years of handling. Quite an antique.

Yes, I noticed that it's just a 'baby cannon'... I'd put that baby on display in my living room! :laughing7:

"paper weight" lol

But in reality... I would have a custom stand made and it would be in middle of my coffee table. :)

FWIW, I was watching one of those Civil War reenactment things on TV, or YouTube...
They showed a cannon firing in super-slow-motion.
I never realized how much un-burned gunpowder shot out the muzzle of these things!!

Aside from that (and I guess it would only matter if gunpowder were in short supply), the cannon is an effective, if simple, piece of artillery that can get the job done.

I might need to get a cannon for the front yard, so I can keep the looters at bay when the next hurricane beats up back to the stone age.

I like this cannon, would make an awesome display in the gunroom. I've got enough black powder substitute around here to make some noise with this one for a few days

I actually was looking thru some boxes that were passed down to me. Sad story about the trunnion is it was around someone decided it was garbage and thru it away what a bummer. Yeah but my family is in the marine industry is why k thought it might be a signal cannon. Another thing is there any reason it could not be fired ? Of course I would go thru proper steps to prepare it for this anyways just curious. Thanks a lot to you all for the compliments it seems LIKE k have found something worth checking out it. Honestly it kinda called out to me from the second I saw it I'm no expert but the petina looked right as far as being older and original it was definatly one of the coolest things that was uncovered. It's something I like the story of but will probly sell to someone who can appreciate it I have so much more t ok go thru k hope to find more like it. My grandfather was a auctioneer and prolly had a lot of cool stuff I never saw

To get the most 'bang for your buck' you're going to need to get this piece authenticated, then you need to contact an auction house that specializes in antique firearms and military relics. Most specialist auction houses will offer some form of authentication, but what you actually need here is provenance.

These guys look interesting... https://www.ima-usa.com/collections/18th-century/#listpage
