Ugly nasty critters if you ask me! Unfortunately having food, water and shelter outside for your pet also means an open invitation to other "varmints" :)

Opossum and Sweet Potatoes

1 opossum (about 2-1/2 pounds)
1/2 cup water
2-1/2 teaspoons salt
4 medium sweet potatoes
Pepper to taste
2 tablespoons sugar
Flour
Trim excess fat from opossum and discard. Wash quickly inside and out with warm water; drain thoroughly. Rub salt and pepper well into the opossum inside and out. Sprinkle inside and out with flour. Lay the opossum on its back in a roasting pan.
Add water, cover and bake at 350 degrees F until about half done (45 to 60 minutes). Split peeled potatoes in half lengthwise and place in pan around opossum. Add more water if needed. Cover sliced potatoes and opossum and cook 30 more minutes.

Lol.....LMAO....We used to have 15 or 20 racoons that would do the same thing while I was growing up. That was before the whole "rabies" scare. We used to feed those things out of our hands.

We have these in Minnesota too. If you walk up to them they fall over and play "Possum".

Oh geez! I hate 'em too!

Just last week my 15 year-old son was complaining of a smell coming from his bedroom closet, so I went to check it out. I smelled the distink smell of a dead animal! So I had a buddy of mine help cut into the wall to try to find the dead animal. It didn't take long to find it! Wedged up in the wall was a big old dead opposum! GROSS & SMELLY!!! NASTY DUDES!!!

Yes, they are ugly, but part of nature just trying to get by. They don't have jobs, they live off the fat o' the lan'.

'posum's are living fossils
like the gar fish and another animal that escapes me now

We had one last summer that visited our cats food bowl every night. I bet that thing was around 20lbs. My male cat that knows no enemies, would sit about 3 feet away and watch him eat. Beware, they can carry rabies!!!

Greg

Looks like my cousin Nell on a really good day!

What in the h-ll is my mother-in-law doing over in your neck of the woods? :o
Ugly!!!
-MM-

I went to Louisiania a few years back.Went with brother in law to a friends house. While there he opened the oven to check the posum out.I looked at it and thought these were desperate people or they just have different tast. The head and teeth were still there.

I'll admit that I've eaten possum more times than most. But, I can't say that I've ever had it prepared with the head still attached. ??? I might have to draw the line there.

its a new breed of cat -- the rednecked short hair --- whatza matta da wife didn't like her "new" cat I lieft for her to play wif? by the way is your "kitten" around or did it eat it --- because they have been know to eat small baby kittens and mice too --- they love outdoor pet bowls ---free food !!!

The "outdoor" cat is huge, he can hold his own. But he just sits back and lets them eat. He knows better.

puddy tat knows theres more cat chow inside -- so he figgers it ain't worth the scrap --- hey cats are smart after all --- the cat knows you'll give him more chow --- but the bad news is "smiley" will be back to "punk" the cat outta his food later on again --- once they get a "freebie"meal from a "pushover" animal they will come around snooping for more -- the strong take from the weak--- its way of the woods baby --- Ivan

My german shepherd caught one trying to sneak food from his bowl one night, the opossum didn't have a good night..but he did put up a fight until Rommel (my dawg) put the atomic slobber bite on him....pretty gross
