I stopped over to a bottle digger buddies house and this was one of his dump finds. He says he thinks its bakelite. I tapped it and to me it sounds like ceramic. He says it very well could be. He's not really sure. Its about 3&1/2" to 3&3/4" inches in length. Well anyways let the head scratchin' begin. Swiz

I think it would have to be some type of pottery tool myself. Does anyone know someone who knows a Potter? Besides Harry. It just fits so perfectly in your hand that it just seems like some type of artist tool. Its not carbon, nothing wipes off on your hands when handling it. Swiz

No Cheese didn't get it. I'm unsure of the age of some of the items that were dug with this piece. It was dug out of a big city dump. I believe Daroofa has it but what is it called and what was it used for. The only consistent thing that I know is this was dug with crockery and with other pieces consistent with making crocks and jugs and such. I really believe its the tool in the above pic but would like to know more about that specific tool. Swiz

I have several. The large diameter ones with flat ends are carbon rods from old batteries and the pointed ones are carbon rods from lighting, as I mentioned. Yours is one of the two, lighting I would assume since the end is pointed/arced off.

The pic you posted of the box of carbon rods doesn't look like what this guy has. I'll be back over there this weekend and I'll get some more pics of it and post it again. Maybe even a short video. Swiz

An insulator would have a hole all the way through it to run a wire or some groves for the wire to get wrapped around. This thing is solid except a small hole drilled or molded into the very end. I'll be going back over on Sunday and get some video of it from different angles and I'll stick a toothpick in the end to show you how deep it is. Swiz

One of mine doesn't have a hole through it. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,331239.0.html

OK who made the page large!

I think it was ManBearPig.
You need to use http://tinyurl.com/ please.

Its just too hard to read.

Thanks.

BTW I agree its an insulator.

Just to add another option and yep, Tinyurl is likely far easier but using
Code:
[URL=www.whatever]**text**[/URL]
works as well.
