I stopped over to a bottle digger buddies house and this was one of his dump finds. He says he thinks its bakelite. I tapped it and to me it sounds like ceramic. He says it very well could be. He's not really sure. Its about 3&1/2" to 3&3/4" inches in length. Well anyways let the head scratchin' begin. Swiz

Or part of an old car battery...d2

Its definitely not part to an old car battery, and I've never seen a handle for a tool made out of ceramic. He did say that he dug this near some pottery type stuff. Old jugs, crocks or ginger beers or something like that. Swiz

Its made that way. Both edges are equal with each other and where the hole is its dipped in a bit. There's nothing rough like you'd expect to see with a break. It fits quite nicely in your hand. I'm not sure what other dimensions I can give ya. Like I said above its 3 and a half, maybe 3 and three quarters inches in length. Maybe the diameter of a magic marker. The hole looks to be about the size of the center of a round toothpick. I'm not sure how deep it is and it'll be a while before I go back over there so that's the only pic I can offer you. The whole thing looks the same all the way around, no marks or writing and on the very back is a 45 degree taper just on the edge. Not enough to even mention really. Swiz

Almost looks like a pottery tool handle or even an old water filter of some sort. I even thought an old wind chime. :dontknow:

It looks like the discarded end of an insulator. While it was still semi-malleable, it was swagged off and discarded.

I dunno - interesting though...

Can you find out if it is bakelite or ceramic because that could make a difference in the era. Interesting, Breezie

Does anyone have any pics of old pottery tools. Like I said he did find this in with some jugs or crocks. He also found some wedges which were used to keep the jugs from collapsing onto each other when they were cookin'. Personally I would say its ceramic by the feel and sound. It doesn't look like rubber or plastic at all. Swiz

Maybe an old soldering iron handle, the kind that had to be heated by placing it in a fire. :dontknow:
