I found tons of clay pipe pieces during my archaeological dig today.

That's odd. Did you only find pipes? Seems like you should have found some bottles too. How deep is a layer?
 

I found tons of glass, bones, pottery, etc. I just wanted to show the amount of clay pipe pieces I found.
 

You can be fooled by quantities of clay pipe and broken pottery. It could mean its just an empty field that clay soil. In the past broken pipes/ceramics etc were collected up and sold by the waggon load to add to sticky soil to make it easier to work.

You can soon tell if this is the case by the type of soil.
 

The site we are digging is the site of an old fort from 1720.
 

Hopefully it will turn out to be productive for you in metal finds soon.
 

I'm just wondering if there wasn't an ancient crack house on that site :icon_scratch: That's a ton of pipes :laughing7:
 

I ended up finding a copper pin, a part to a flintlock gun, a bone button, and a whole clay pipe bowl.
