There are some websites out there that tell you the make and year of old shotshells. Based on the narkings on the base, etc. I found an old base shotshell a couple of years ago that was from the late 1800's to early 1900's. It was a 10ga

Take a wire bruss to it so we can read the headstamp. That will tell the story. Not a draper as someone said above, they were two piece.

No. The 1864 Draper is very rare with a screw off base and a percussion nipple underneath. Yours seems to have a shotgun primer. Can you read anything on the headstamp?

I cant find my book but my 1909 Sears catalog sold brass shotgun shells

The primer is an early Boxer or Berdan type, you can tell which by looking into the shell and seeing if there is one flash hole or two. That's going to make it a fairly early shell, pre 1900 anyway, but I can't find info at the moment on when the modern 209 shot shell primer was introduced.
