And I wasn't even detecting! I had a new mattress delivered today. The gentleman stopped dead in his tracks getting ready to retrieve the old one when my 28 pound 40" Maine Coon cat, Lil'while was perched in the middle of the bed. The guy says "There's a cat on the bed." Sheer genius here! Well, this 28 pound cutie pie wouldn't hurt him. But a cat that size that doesn't run (he wanted to get petted), is enough to intimidate anyone. So I remove him from the bed and the guy literally sighs in relief, and took one step forward. At which point the real life Smokeythecat does this horrid growl from the greenhouse window a couple more feet away. The poor guy stopped dead in his tracks again.

Anyway, got a new mattress.

Which prompted me just now to vacuum ALL THE WAY under the bed. Well, I'm still missing the $5 US Gold coin I got at the beach a year plus ago. I put it away REAL GOOD last fall, 2017. To keep the carpet guys from "finding" it as everything in the room had to get moved.

As I'm vacuuming I see a coin "flip" holder, so go for it.

Out comes the flip with something inside it! Something Golden! A coin! No, NOT the $5 missing one.

It's a British quarter Guinea I bought at least 5 years ago as a type coin. Dated 1762.

But I still found it! I thought I had sold it awhile back, detectors are expensive!

Some of the dust and cat fur under there has a pedigree! True story. (You can't make this garbage up.)View attachment IMG_1444.jpg

Always nice finding gold, even if you have owned it for a while.

I had to sleep on it.:laughing7: Only me, only me. Now to find the $5 one. I just retired, so can spend MONTHS on that adventure.

Can I come detect your house?...lol

Yes, you can come detect the house. Bring a dust rag.

Doesn't matter where you find it, golds always a welcome find!

A couple of years ago my wife and I were at an estate sale. I was hauling our "treasures" to the car while my wife was still shopping....on the way to the car, which was a few houses down, I saw something gleaming in the grass on the curb strip between the street and the sidewalk. I bent down to pick it up and couldn't believe my eyes! I put it in my pocket, quickly walked to the car, put my estate sale boxes in the trunk, and sat in the drivers seat to examine my find, this is what I picked up in the grass:

PandaCoin.jpg

It's a quarter ounce Chinese Panda coin, set in a 14K bezel with a 14K chain! When we got home, I showed it to my wife, and of course she wanted it :laughing7:

Only the cat has gold falling out of the furniture and rafters. Lol.

You clearly have too many gold coins..and this is, no doubt, a very stressful problem. As a licensed clinical social worker, I would like to offer my assistance... send them all to me!

It is always a wonderful thing to find something that you thought that you gave away or sold and totally regretted. I call it pleasantly surprised. I guess it is a little different from finding something that you totally forgot getting (done this a few times). if it doesn't have any special connection to you, might help fund that new detector you were looking at LOL. or a coil.

Gold is interesting. My friend Bob, who sold metal detectors, was trying to sell me this little tiny detector called a "Deus" two years ago last month. It was so SMALL and looked like a toy and was SOOOO expensive. We put some Virginia red dirt with nails and an eagle button from the Civil War outside his house on the ground. The Deus would not read it. I said no thanks. He was bound and determined this was a GREAT machine. It does work well in the VA red dirt, he had it set for mild Maryland dirt.

One day he came over to my house, and was showing me this newfangled thingamagig. He asked if he could detect the lawn, well sure, I'm just sitting watching him as what fun is it to dig your own lawn? After about the 15th clad coin he rears up and yells "I found a gold ring". Well, he surely did. I bought that machine on the spot. Strike 1.

Strike 2. Darryl and I decided to gold prospect my creek. Well, there is gold there but it is tiny. So last summer we got a cement mixer and worked down some dirt that had come off bedrock my house is sitting on. We found 1/4 ounce of gold! The blasted vein is UNDER my house!

And now today. Strike 3. Time to find the $5 coin. And a missing Chinese cash coin my dad had, I may have given that to my daughter though.

BTW, do not microwave hydrogen peroxide. Don't ask. (Going to Lowe's to get a new microwave tomorrow.)

I will check the local landfill and find your lost gold coin for myself perhaps :D Things tend to end up lost in the trash somehow these days.

No, it's in one of two bedrooms, I will probably find it either under the other bed or behind a dresser. I'll be looking starting Sunday.

And to think, there is nothing but dust and boxes of shoes under my bed ! I'm sure the shoe's are worth a few thousand dollars though. Maybe I'll tell my wife I'm gonna trade them in for a gold coin. Glad you found your coin Smokey.

What's old is new again!
Gold is a nice re-discovery!

And no, it's not on ebay. It's sitting in front of me, waiting to get lost one more time!
