It's damaged, but it's still a nice find and it whistles very nicely. I went and crawled one of my Ft Ancient sites after we had three days of steady rain and it was washed down pretty good. It had a lot of weeds and leaves on it or I figure I may have done even better.

I also found a pretty nice Bone Awl. A piece of Bead Stock which is the end left over after they cut the Bead off of it. Three decent Points, one that has what seems to be a Chisel Tip on it. Some crude Preforms. Two Beads, one Shell Tube Bead that has been worn almost all the way through on the back side and a Crinoid Bead. A piece of cut Deer Antler and a section of very highly polished Bone.

The Flute/Whistle is really loud when you blow it and even though it's damaged on one end and broke through the 3rd hole it is still a very cool find. I was happy with what I found for a 3 hour hunt.

I need to do some crawlin. Great finds SRV. You sure have some great places to hunt. I have only found one piece of bone and I do not think it is anything. Congrats on that whistle find! We had around 2.5 inches of rain.

DANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is very cool Steve. What is the item in photo number 6?

Mia, that is the piece of Bead Stock I mentioned. This is the end of the Bone that is left after they cut the Bead off of it. You can see where they scored it all the way around and then snapped it off. We find a bunch of these on our Ft Ancient sites.

That is just amazing! What era, if that's the correct term, is the Ft. Ancient site anyway. :dontknow:

PS. I found some bone pieces the other day but I don't know how to tell if they are old bone or something more recent. What do you look for to make that determination?

Mia, the site has been dated from around 950 to 1650 AD.

Post some pictures of the Bone you found and I'll take a look at it. Looks for polish on it and sharp polished tips. Look for marks like the Bead Stock that show where it was scored and snapped. That could indicate Beads or Bead Stock.

very cool
i wish i could get my whistles to work
i can't get them to make any sound
i wish some one would show me how
