it's and old town I would think it fair game
that would be an old ghost town we have a lot of the around here
never hard any one getting locked up for poking around an old ghost town
long as it's not a national park know...

I'll say, I live all around GOV and State lands. It is not much of a town not even roads anymore.the area are has been built on but this one sits clear. It is in a large lot of woods and no roads are left. but after looking I can see areas where a few homes were. JACK POT-->

I'm sorry but I have exclusive permission to detect that site. If you ask me though I might let you help... Where is it again ? LoL Good luck with it and let us know what you find. I'm about an hour North West of Asheville.

Hahahahahaha!!!!!

Going to take my dog on a long walk to look around.

You can go to the court, land office, or wherever land tax records are kept in your area to see who, if anybody, pays the taxes on the parcel. A lot of those "once-upon-a-times" are privately owned.

Found an amazing abandoned neighbor hood in the woods homes are long gone I think and found the roads on a old map. The company who owns the land is located out of state. How do I go about asking permission?
try this, drop down to the agree button, locate area, there is a i feature that gives owner info https://www.buncombecounty.org/governing/depts/GIS/Disclaimer.aspx

just checked when you zoom to area, click i click map a info box posp up,click

I completely agree with Keppy, if it's in the middle of the woods I'd hunt it and not worry about it.

Wow an amazing consensus of answers here :)

Rockhoppernc: When you say you "found" this site, do you mean as in: you already saw it ? From your post #3, it sounds like were already hiking around there and perhaps saw foundations, or whatever? Because if so, then .... doh, you were already there. Or if you think you can "walk your dog there", then, if you could do that without worry or permission .... well.... then ....

I have seen a old foundation close by but have not in this part of the woods. The neighbor hood plot
was originally a huge lot and split up a long time ago. I have driven past the new spot and spotted a trail going in. Thats about it other than using the GIS and maps for my area as well as overlaying the old maps to spot home plots.
Also used blooming flowers and bushes to find the last foundation and a nice little backyard full of first picks.Think we were the first to hunt this spot and excited to check the other spots in the new area.

Is the property in use now? Are livestock being pastured or is it being farmed? If that's the case I'd seek permission from the leaser.

No as far as I know it is a wooded lot. Looked it up and it is listed as an abandoned neighbor hood. a few small trails can be seen from over head. If I am correct I can see foundations. Talked to a friend who has been in the area 76 years and remembers a story of a dirt street hood with a few small too room homes. Mostly factory worker families and at that time not a very nice place..
