Another full day in the fields today with Tony. Our plan was to concentrate on finding new sites so we got out early with a field just outside of town in mind. First door we knocked on we got permission and we were off to the races. The field was very quiet and we quickly determined that there was no site here. After about an hour we were getting ready to call it when Tony calls me over to show me a toy Roy Rogers cap gun. Neat little find for Tony and that was the only thing found. I made one more line up by a fence and got a solid target about 50 feet from where Tony dug the toy gun. Flipped it out and immediately called Tony over. I knew right away it was real but couldn't identify it...no markings. NOLA-Ken identified it as an open top pocket revolver! Going to do some Googling to see if I can positively identify it but apparently these were pretty common in the late 1800s so probably not possible.

Also managed the usual things from our next site including a couple Vickie coppers and a glass Santa that I eyeballed with the meat grinder crank at a surface dump.

Beautiful digs. Some nice history right there! :icon_thumleft:

No Markings on the gun part? Looks to be a single shot frame.

Nice work! 🙌 Size-wise, I'm thinking maybe a boot pistol?

Actually did find a serial number after doing some cleaning...1488.

Sweet finds! :occasion14:

very cool but I think that old firearms are very cool. other than that, I would be totally stoked if I found that

Hello romeo-1. Those are some really great finds 'ya got there.

I love that wrench thing. Your gun was called a spur trigger revolver, I found one like it recently, just the handle end like yours...don't know alot about them but I think they were like Saturday Nite Specials back in the day.

Thanks for the post and Good Luck out there. C9

Nice bunch of finds romeo. I'm pretty sure that handle is off a water well pump. Good luck.

Whoa!! Just doing a little research and this was a very rare revolver. 10 shot, double hammer, less than 2000 made between 1860 and 1862!! I think I will go back and look for more!

Definitely dig every iron signal!

Definitely dig every iron signal!

I'm hoping to at least find the other side plate which would be brass...not holding out much hope for the barrel and cylinder. Only problem is I found this piece near the property fence so the other piece could be on the neighbouring property. More door knocking!
