I hope this is the right place to post this.

I've been hitting a cellar hole in my town belonging to one of the earliest settlers of the area. There are lakes and parks named after him, and I've spent the last month gathering his personal belongings from the extremely pounded site. There aren't a lot of cellar holes where I live, and there are an unusually high number of detectorists, so competition is fierce.

Anyway, I finally made the box today and put it all together. The note on the inside of the lid is all of the information that I could find on the man and his family, gathered from the internet and from my local library. He was born in 1822 and came to Michigan in the 1840s. These items were very likely last touched by himself or his family. What an amazing piece of local history, I'm super proud to have put it all together :)

That is outstanding..any chance you could donate/loan it out?..or is this for keeps? either way I like it.

Thank you! I couldn't bear to lose this thing, it's very special to me, and I've put a lot of work into it. I plan to take it to my local historical society for a little show and tell + pictures though!

Very nice, coming from a fellow waterman!

That's really cool, nice way to put it all together

I like it better than your old avatar:laughing7:

LOL

yeah I think a lot of people do. Got a lot of....less than satisfied reviews of the last one.

very well done, classy job, something to be proud of for sure

Very nice and well done. I appreciate that you respect the history like that. That is the way I work too. Super job!

I made a video that shows the things in it up close

Thank you for sharing this. Another passion of mine is wooden boxes, either building or buying, I do both. It's nice to see the creativity that you put into this great idea; you should be proud. . . The two strips in the lower left of your picture, do you know what they are? I've found them before, and just curious because I have no idea. Also, a very cool padlock.
Oops! I just watched your video, and it answered my question...harmonica reeds.

Hey thanks, that means a lot!

Yes I do know what those are, they're harmonica reeds! I find them all over old homesites :)

Very cool. So much history is lost. Nice of you to put the story together. I am sure there is a local museum that would love to have it on loan. Nice work.

That is an awesome find! I would be very proud to find that! Neat

That's very cool, nice job. I'd like to do something like that as well!
