I dug this complete spur in excellent shape can anyone date it?

I recovered this lovely gem from a site last evening, i was a half a second from not digging it as the signal was real weak at almost 10" deep and really broken up, but due to the lid i had just found that had a date of 1854 i dug it anyway and im glad i did

Since it is cast and then filed, I'd say mid-1800s. Any other marks on it?

Agreed - Richmond Patterned spur, mid 1800s. (Common Conferderate Spur)

Excellent find BTW with the rowel still there...

By the way, I've had one AWFUL time trying to preserve the rowels on these. I don't know if there is a way to do it...maybe thoroughly dried and then some sort of clear coat? Otherwise they disintegrate... Perhaps someone will come up with a preservation tip for you. You can't use electrolysis because it's attached to the Brass...
