i need help on this buckle from the what is it ? experts :)
dug up at a circa 1850's house on 11-12-08 it's 1 3/16 wide and 1 1/16 long with out the
attached piece the small attached piece has writing on it and it took me till today to figure it
out left side says PAT i can only see the T the top has APRIL and 2 numbers ?? and the
right side i see 27 so i assume it's from 1927 ? it all seems to be thin brass except maybe
the tongue ? it's pitted on the end but i have seen pitted brass before
what i'd like to know is what was this buckle used for ?? i'm hoping maybe a suspender
buckle ?? i'm sure someone on here saw or dug one like this and has the answer for me

and the small attached piece with the letters

thanks for looking :)

I have one of those buckles too!  I put it in the suspender clip case, but it came from a site that dated just before to just after the Civil War.

I thought it was a suspender clip.

thanks for the reply Buckles :) i can't imagine how many varietys you have found i have found 2
with 1875 ? pat dates older style thicker brass i'm gonna guess you found yours in a farm field
maybe the farmer dropped it in the 30's - 40's ? does yours have a pat date on the attachment too ? ?

Mine doesn't not have a patent date. But I'm not entirely certain it's a suspender clip either. I'm looking for the patent on yours right now. You sure that the date on it is "27"?

yes, i guess you can't see the 27 in the photo i see APRIL ?? 27 i kinda messed up on this one i soaked
it in water and used a skewer to get the crud off after the second soak i saw letters and i used your method
for backmarks but, the water took the dirt out of the letters 27 is clear though and there is some corrosion
there it came out of the ground at 7 - 8 inches i really appreciate you helping me out i'm wondering if
the date is for the attached piece only ? well, it's snowing good here and i have an appt. so i'm gonna log
off here for a few hours i hope you find it Buckles then we'll both know what these things were used for :)

maaaan, every time i post i see something more afterwards :tard: i decided to use a camel
brush where the letters and dates are and after doing that i saw 4 numbers now ???
the 2 looks more like an 8 and there was a 1 in front of that 187? i either see a 5 or
a 6 at the end these numbers are as big as a pencil tip so i'm guessing "it is as old as the
area you were searching" BuckleBoy  it's either April 20,30 1875 or 1876 i've been
trying the patent seach site for the last hour and i just can't get the hang of it :-[
somebody has to know what these were used for and the age yes :)

I looked through the first hundred of his posts then put the project on hold.  If he would post a link, it would be much appreciated.  I can't find a post of his that contains the word "suspender" with the search feature...  :(
