I don't speak Dutch so I don't know what this is. Ideas?

I know most of the things I dig here in the Netherlands as they are similar to things I've found in the UK but there are a couple of things that come up that I have no clue what they might be. This in one of those things and I need some help. I can't even make a guess so all help is appreciated.

Age of field - OLD
Soil - eats coins
Depth - 10"
Found With - all kinds of crap
Probable age - about that old

It actually spoke to you in Dutch?

It said, "het oude ding van de draadklem" (old wire clamp thingy)

I knew it was something like that. When I put "het oude ding van de draadklem" into my Babelfish or Mac OSX translation widget I got "the old thing of the binding-screw."

Glad I got it straight now.

Have you considered assembling your whatzits for a group photo op, and then sending PM's to Crusader, Shaun, Robfinds, and some of our other European diggers to see what they can ID for you?

I thought about it but one of the things I like about the "What is it?" section is the wide variety of things you see there and what people think they are. If I just PM it to the guys across the way, it will not be posted for others to see and ponder

True. I wasn't suggesting just to PM them photos. I do encourage you to post them here for all to see--it's just that most of what is found over there is out of my league in terms of ID's.

Ain't translators wonderful...send it around the room and when its gets to the last person it will translate as 'Maryln Monroe's toenail cleaning tool'....
