I found this at a late 1800's early 1900's house foundation last week. thanks in advance for any help you can give me identifying it.

could be a screw driver that the handle rotted away. i have seen lathe tools and antique specialty tools at my grandfathers (he was 100yrs old when he passed in 1976) and some where brass so as not to damage steel , leather,etc. i have seen this but for the life of me i can't place it.

i think its down on the treadle part of an old singer sewing mach.

I made a wild guess earlier in this thread about it being the end of a lightning rod for a house.I just remembered finding one of these (below) at my mothers old homestead (1930's time frame) I noticed that grove at the bottom of the one in this pic ?

I think it should be cleaned. It may reveal something.

i just sent a inquiry to the person that operates this website below in the UK on old sewing machines.She just got back to me and said it doesn't look like anything she has ever seen on a sewing machine.

I did clean it up some more and it didn't expose anything new.
