Although I flirted with heat exhaustion, I went digging yesterday for the first time in months. Although I found little else worth mentioning, this little fellow made the outing worthwhile.

The button is about 20mm, complete with tiny flecks of gilt here and there. A capital letter A with thin horizontal lines within it on a plain field. After straining my eyes for a while, I'm pretty sure I can make out the word LIMERICK in the backmark.

Cursory research online makes me think it's probably an Artillery uniform button made by Tait & Co. (I think I can make out the "& Co." too) of Limerick.

So far I've only gone over it lightly with a dry soft-bristle toothbrush. I welcome any tips or bringing out the backmark more without damaging it. Or should I leave it alone?

Thanks for looking!

FANTASTIC FIND CONGRATS !!!!!

I'm sure it's better, for the value, not to clean it, but it will take some willpower. There's some nice detail and maybe some gold peaking out from the corrosion. Don't clean it.

Congratulations on the great looking button.
