I am older, and first time online in forum. I don't know how to post a question.

Hi, My name is Jo. I am older, in my mid 50's and my Daddy left me a coin and I have been relentlessly struggling to find any information online about this coin pendant I have. I was hoping that perhaps you can help me. I have no way of sending you any photographs. You seem to be very knowledgeable.
The piece I have is 1 1/2" in diameter and 1/16" thick solid silver. It is silver, but not marked .925 I think because of age. Small circle at top for chain. Front inner circle of 1 3/4" diameter that appears to be the shape of an actual ring you would wear (squared on top of circle) shown from side view. Inside the circle is a plant in background of capital letters SIGNET and the date 1870 below the word SIGNET.
The words MOYEIKHN NOIEI KAI EPRAZOY. are 3/4 moon curved around the inner circle with some decorative leaves curved up at the very bottom of the coin. (ALL LETTERS AND DECORATION ARE HIGH RELIEF ON THE FRONT).
Back of the coin is engraved in script H Jackson with '15 in script below the name. Oh I would appreciate your time and consideration if you can help me at all. I am at my wits end. I have spent hours and cannot even identify the words. My vision is not at its best either.
I have no one to help me post a picture, no camera, maybe if you even recognize the language?
Can you help me identify and value this piece. I will be forever grateful to you. Forever. Sincerely. Jo :BangHead:

JO, i have no idea, but rest assured there are many people here who will tell you what they know

no worries Jo. You are somebody now!! check the phonebook for your name

Welcome to Treasure Net !!

From this page Bibliotheca Societatis Signeti in Academia Harvardiana Ex Dono
you will see the title of this paper is:
Bibliotheca Societatis Signeti in Academia Harvardiana Ex Dono Veritas : Moyeikhn Noiei Kai Eptazoy
From Latin, the first part of the title translates to: Signet Society of Harvard University Library
From this page The Signet Society - The Signet Society you can see the top line the phrase you presented, Moyeikhn Noiei Kai Eptazoy, means: Create Art and Practice It.

Actually, as described in the source I just gave, "Mousiken" refers to any activity over which the Muses preside. "Poiei" means literally "make" and here refers perhaps to the imaginative idea, the inspiration, while "Ergazou" urges us to do the work necessary to realize it.
You may wish to contact the Signet Society, Harvard University Library for more information. ([email protected])
Don.....
PS: If you wanted to take this to the next step, you could inquire at the Society as to who H. Jackson was in 1915 and see if you could return it to his heirs'.

Adding further......what you have may be this:
signet_medal.JPG
[h=3]Signet Medals[/h]This Signet Medal edition was cast from an original medal owned by E. W. Forbes, class of 1895. The front of the medal bears the Signet insignia, its Greek inscription, and the founding date. The back can be inscribed with member’s name and class for undergraduate and graduate members, and with date elected for associate members.

No Mike, but I appreciate your time and consideration. I am and will always be grateful for your efforts. I believe I have found my answer. I love your quotes. Happy and Safe New Year. Jo

I am absolutely fascinated with this information. I am so appreciative of you and this resource online. I have tried to post my response to you several times to no avail. I am old and "computer illiterate" pretty much. I left you a excellent rating. I am going to contact the Harvard Library immediately and try to find the heirs to this piece. Thank you so very, very, much. I will forever be grateful to you for your time. You are a kind individual. Have a Happy and Safe New Year. Sincerely, Jo

:notworthy: MACKAYDON, I HOPE YOU SAW MY POST REPLY INTENDED FOR YOU! I am in awe of you and how you might have known this information. May you be rewarded several times over for your assistance to help me find the rightful owner of this piece.

I APPRECIATE EVERYONE WHO HAS ASSISTED ME IN FINDING THE ANSWER TO THIS MYSTERY! THANK YOU TreasureNet MEMBERS.... HAPPY NEW YEAR! :occasion18:

Jo please let us know what you find out about this item. Good luck on you quest!

Jo,
It was a pleasure to do the research.
Your kind words were the 'icing on the cake'.
I thank you for the opportunity.
Happy New Year and good luck to finding an heir to your find.
If you need assistance in that respect, re-post and the hunt will be on again.
Don..

Hi Smittyman, I am so very excited to be a part of this site. I have found my answer! And, we are neighbors, too. I am about an hour North West of you! It was easier for me to copy the response I got and show you. It will be following, and I have already emailed the Harvard Signet Society in hopes of hearing from them about an heir. I also have their phone number! I will keep you posted. I would mark you as a friend to find you easier if I knew how. Is that how I find you?

Well, talk about repeating myself on these "threads". I am learning though. Slowly, but learning. Oh Don, I want to try to add you to friends if I can. Is that how I get in touch with you. I want you to know how my "quest" goes. I finally was able to email Harvard. The email has changed. For your information it is: [email protected] for the Signet Society. I had to try several different emails posted online unsuccessfully before I found this new one. And, their number is 617-547-0526. I am going to try to put you in friends if I can. You are a kind individual and I appreciate you more than I can express. My father was brilliant in many fields, but unfortunately he died at age 52 of cancer. Oh how he would have been fascinated by the internet. He did not attend Harvard, but he was in WWII at age 19. He was a Georgia Military Academy graduate, South Carolina State University Graduate, and was a Michigan University graduate student with degrees in Archeology, Geology, Sociology and Psychology. He was fluent in 5 languages so I cannot imagine where he obtained this Signet. I am not trying to boast about him, just figure out this mystery. You remind me of him somewhat. He would have gladly helped anyone, but did not speak of his knowledge himself. He told me he felt a man's knowledge was for him to gain for himself alone and no other reason. How he chose to use it would be decided. May the New Year be kind to you. I hope you got a rating from me. Sincerely, Jo I am going to see if I can put you on my friend list to find you. I do not know if that is how it works. Thank you again.

Jo, I am bummed that you think mid 50s is "old" I recently turned 57 but I still have the mind of a 12 year old... lol Welcome to the site. Great bunch of folks here.

Welcome Jo! I hope you'll hang around with us old fogies some more.Everyone is so helpful here in helping to ID all sorts of items.

Bandit, don't take your age so hard; you could be one of my kids.
Suffice to say I've been around since before Pearl Harbor.
Make the best of each year; always consider yourself in your prime.
Happy New Year !!
Don..
