Re: I am gonna give it a shot.

hey cool neo man
the two smaller bones just above the huge white bone will each yield two bone awls once you split them down the middle lengthwise
i have a post on here that i made about two months ago that will show this
thanks my buddy frank the crank,

Re: I am gonna give it a shot.

hey frank try going to a slaughter house and getting some fresh bone it works alot better

Re: I am gonna give it a shot.

Thanx ya'll....It is alot harder then I thought.I knapped out 3 or 4 tools....no go too thick....so T started working with flakes ...low and behold it is working....I have found many flake tools, and this flake tool will be just like them...

No I am not sure of how to play,I am really just trying to get a feel of how to work the stuff....

Here are the last of the flake tools for this part. They work super well.& they really do remind me of some artifacts that I find...Pretty neat.

Re: I am gonna give it a shot.

Well I started workin on the cow bone,But I got rained out....Plus my new thumb blister is thumpin..lol

Re: I am gonna give it a shot.

ok it stopped sorta (the rain..)here is more

IMG_5963.jpg

Now it's time to try to split it...I had to knapp out some more flakes. They really seem to work the best.
IMG_5966.jpg

IMG_5965.jpg

IMG_5964.jpg

Well it did not split that well, but I still worked it .
IMG_5969.jpg

IMG_5970.jpg

I also made a abraiding stone as well.
IMG_5968.jpg

IMG_5967.jpg

It's getting there...
IMG_5974.jpg

IMG_5971.jpg

Well thats it for now....Hope ya'll like it...I really learned alot doing this.Like flake tools rule!!!!They are so useful.More so then I thought...And when it comes to working bone,it is more like whittling,or shaveing it down...
Thanx for lookin gang...Neo

I am enjoying watching this. Don't get any of those chert slivers in you. :hello:

I kept working on the other 1/2..Till it got dark..
This is my fav lil blade, works like a champ..
IMG_5980.jpg

IMG_5981.jpg

This is pretty much the break down...
IMG_5985-1.jpg

yes frank the bone on the top of the most recent posted image will yield two nice long awls
note how short these became as they were continually sharpened over and over for years
i think they started out at 6-7"s long and after years they ended up either broke or re-sharpened to 3 or so inches long

You really need a peice of hide on your leg Neo.
Those indians must have had hands like leather..

Nice to see someone experimenting, with bone...

Molly.

Yeah I had some hide, but my dog ate it!Now I am usein a towel, all folded up...I keep tryin to work on it some more, but the rain keeps runin me inside...lol...
Plus I think the bone I have are too old, they keep crackin....But I saw in the Awl post, some were made of slivers..So I will try them..I is tough work..I am runnin out of bandaids..lol
I was thinkin of sendin some with my beginers sets,But thought better of it.I don't want to pollute the market with repos...

I am still workin on it...Now that there is a good groove,I can use a larger tool .
I have reduced the since this pic..

This little Spadefoot toad wanted to help,But I told he to come back when he is bigger..lol.
IMG_5988.jpg

IMG_5989.jpg

there we go so far...I am almost through the bone and it stoped raining so off I go..

Sorry for all the pics....here are some more.
I made a saw like tool, like the one that I found last time diggin. It worked really well.
IMG_5998.jpg

IMG_5999.jpg

Then once the grooze was almost through on both sides.I made a spade like tool.to split it rest of the way.

IMG_6001.jpg

IMG_6002.jpg

IMG_6003.jpg

untill the next batch of pics..Neo

Here is the last batch of pics for now .I have to give my hands time to heal..lol
I split the bone by pecking them.
IMG_6004.jpg

IMG_6005.jpg

IMG_6006.jpg

I tryed to shave them into shape...did not work.So I tryed pecking..that worked well.Prolly would work better with better bone.
